The alcoholic must make the decision he is quitting. No amount of prodding from family or friends will make a difference.
Sometimes the realization that early death and disease are most likely on the horizon will help. I was an alcoholic 25 years, sober now 15 years. God delivered me from the problem.

After twelve years of sobriety and going back to a reckless life style of self destruction, I can honestly say there is no dealing with an alcoholic.
You need to accept the fact some people are not NORMAL.
You wil be dragged into situations that could alter or give a bad impression for your choices in life.
Move away from the situation or deal with it.
God bless you and be careful.

AA is the only known way to successfully treat alcoholism. They also have groups for people who are dealing with alcoholic friends or family.

Unfortunately you don't handle Alcoholism, it miss-handles you. If you have the slightest doubt, seek help at AA. Nothing you say or hear there will harm you. Best regards,

i would say by staying away from grocery stores, and anywhere there might be alcohol. so, just dont leave the comfy padded room. alright, ill be serious. i believe that if you really wanted to stop, youd realize that what youre doing is killing your body inside, and you should think about all of the people around you that love you. if that doesnt make you want to stop for them, then i say you should go to a center. those almost always work.

You need treat the reason before you can handle the problem.
Yes AA can help you but you end up finding another vice eg, gambling, smoking.
Get help, see someone about your problems and the need for a drink will go.

realize your problem...get help from someone like AA, then apologize to your friends and family, keep on track.
if you know someone who is a alcoholic...just be there and support them 100%. if you tell them they're an alcoholic and they get pissed off, they'll get over it and in the end realize that you're a great friend. just support them 100% and make sure they know that.

You'll have to elaborate. Handle drunkenness?
My Dad is an alcoholic, we do not buy him booze. We confront him when he does stupid things like says he's going to the store when he's been drinking. We don't pretend he's not a drunk - he is. But he's my dad and we love him.
You learn all YOU can about it and you find ways of managing YOUR life, not the alcoholics life.
