Kennel cough is a slang term for a viral infection called Bordetella. It's an upper respiratory infection. Your dog should receive this bordetella vaccine from your vet. some Vets. like you to get a Bordetella vaccine every 6 months. Some Vets. would like you to get it at least once a year. There are 100's of this type of viruses and this vaccine can't stop them all but it gets most. Some people think you should only get this vaccine if your going to put your dog in a kennel for boarding or grooming. the truth is your dog should get it with his normal DHLLPC and Rabies vaccines because your dog can go where another dog has been that is infected and catch the infection because it is airborne. You can help you dog with the cough by getting Hydrocodine from you Vet.. this is a cough suppressant and will help with the hacking cough it will get.

Kennel Cough is also called Canine Cough and is actually several infections that blend together to damage and irritate the lining of the dog's trachea and upper bronchii. It is an Airborne infection and thus the name "Kennel Cough" because of the prior history of exposure in boarding kennels. It usually does not happen in Kennels anymore, but through exposure to other dogs at dog parks, walking etc. The cough usually clears up on its own but if not cough suppressants and antibiotics are the usual treatments. I had a dog once that had it and it was gone in about 10 days.

Kennel cough usually happens when there is bad ventilation, or the dog is caged and very stressed out. Although the dog can catch it from another dog usually it is caused by being stressed and caged. It will usually go away on its own but if it is a young puppy it would be a good idea to get it some antibiotics. In older dogs the Bordetella vaccine can be a good preventative.

"kennel cough" is actually a misnomer. It is more accurately referred to as canine cough, because it can be contracted anywhere that dogs congregate, not just kennels. It is analogous to the human flu: highly contagious, not generally dangerous unless it turns into pneumonia (old dogs, very young dogs, or those w/ compromised immune systems should beware), and many strains exist, but only 1 vaccine currently. Because it's a virus, some vets will just let it ride its course, although some will prescribe antibiotics and cough suppressants. Best bet? Vaccinate at least yearly, even better is every 6 months.

Kennel cough, aka: Bordatella is a type of flu or cold dogs can catch. The reason it is called kennel cough is because it tends to breed in kennels, being passed from one dog to the next, and can last if not treated, for long periods of time. The best measure for treating kennel cough would be to take your pet to the vet, there they can provide treatment and a vaccination to ensure that it cannot be caught again.

Kennel cough is a virus that is very contagious among dogs. It can be cured by using a medication called Hydrocodone which can help their cough by suppressing it (acts like a cough medicine). If not treated it can lead 2 pneumonia. This is what we use at my job. Hope this helped.

Kennel cough is a common virus found in dogs that produces a dry cough. It is very contagious and they normally catch it at the vet or groomers. Your pet may need medicine so it is best to take him/her to the vet.

Kennel Cough is the result of animals who are caged continually. They breathe in their own waste products and the result is a nasty cough and runny nose after they are adopted. The best thing for it is to give lots of fluids and rest.

It's basically a cold. Many times it is self limiting, however if the cough is causing problems some animals will need cough suppressants. (don't use any OTC meds) It is very contagious so if the dog is around any others that haven't been vaccinated they will likely get it also.
