When it is done. Don't you people realize this is not a movie and it doesn't get resolved in 2 hours and 5 minutes? When we ended WWII, it took almost 10 years to get both Germany and Japan running on their own again.

And for those of you who think what's happening in Iraq is new or unique, you are wrong! At the end of WWII in Germany, there was a long fight with militant Nazi's who still wanted to fight the war. They bombed civilians who helped the allies, assassinated members of the new German government, and tried to terrorize the country as a whole. This went on through the end of the 1940's. They called themselves, "The Werewolves"

Here is a great website detailing the parallels between post-war Germany and Iraq:

When people figure out that fighting in a war for oil reserves, personal vendetta's, and kill thousands of innocent people for killing thousands of innocent people is wrong. While driving home from work to day I saw a bus that runs on veg. oil and realized that we have so many other natural resources to use. Then I drove by homeless shelter where at least 20 people get turned away a day because there isn't any room, and then i thought of all the food shelters and food drives around and thought what is wrong with helping the American people? Why do we always rush to the aide of other countries and not worry about our own people? When people finally realize how much Bush has f***ed up this country and someone takes his places and has enough balls to say "what are we doing this is wrong" then and only then will this war end. There is enough here at home that we need to fight for.

Probably not anytime soon. This is a major undertaking, and no matter how anyone feels about it, we cant just leave now. The US has alot invested overthere now, and backing out would cause more impact than many people realize- along with the programs we've started there grinding to a halt, and many being left without necessities, Many people who are civilian employed because of the war would loose thier jobs, money would be lost and so on. Theres still US deaths and injuries there everyday as cause from the people there who disagree with our way of life and our presence there. We dont have to like it, but we should understand that its too late to back out.

As things are going, it would be no surprise that we maintain a presence there for many years to come, even opening perminent military bases and headquarters for operations in the rest of that area should things settle there otherwise. Like germany or kuwait or korea. In the future it may be a military station and tour rather than a deployment to be there.

Inshort, not likely anytime soon.

Amazing Question. It should have been asked three years ago when the decision was made to go to war. Its too late now. You see.....its easy to start a war but not so easy to stop it when you want too. And yes, believe it not, terminology aside, you are at war. Vietnam was technically termed a mop-up operation as well. A mop-up which lasted ten years and failed to mop-up anything of value. Unfortunately, some people dont learn from history. This war will end when you get tired of seeing Americans comming home in body bags and crippled. Prepared to Sacrifice? When its your son. When its your husband and when its your father, then we'll see about sacrifice.

well first of all there is not a war going on now.

the us troops are just helping the iraq administration and the security forces take charge of the war torn country and help prevent a civil war between the two factions.

moreover it is helping the country recover from fundamentalism and terrorism which have taken shelter in the country at the behest of neighbouring countries and some terrorist organisations.

as soon as the iraqi admin is capable of running by itself the american forces will withdraw

The Us is not at war with Iraq! It is allied with Iraq in a war with Islamic terrorists & bath/sunni insurgents. And, it will end when the enemy realizes we are just as prepared to sacrifice for democracy as he is for what he believes in - when he realizes we won't surrender just cause some folks get killed.

Haven't you read any Republican press releases? The war ended months if not years ago. We're now in "mopping up" operations. We're just waiting for them to form their own democratice government, get their police and army trained and start shipping us lots and lots of lovely oil. You really should read more press releases.

It will never end. And unfortunately the Coalition Forces can not just pull out it is way to late. So it is sad to say we are in there for the long haul.

I do not think it will ever end and even if it did. Someother kind of war would start and posably pull our USA troops in it.
