Actually my best friend is my girlfriend. Sure I have lots of other friends and some of them are pretty close, but not like my girlfriend.

This is one of life's toughest questions......when to date a friend.

I tend to look at it pragmatically. You've got two people. One of them is going to get hitched FIRST.......either married or into a very serious relationship. The "other" person will become a "third wheel" as soon as that happens. You CAN say you are still friends but let's face it.......what is being a "best friend" to someone ELSE'S boyfriend- girlfriend ?????

It's really too awkward for friends to remain close after one of them is "spoken for". And for BOTH of them to be spoken for makes it even harder to stay "close".

So, if one or both of the friends wants "more" from the other.....let it out in the open as SOON as possible.....see where it goes. If you break up then try to mend fences. If you can't get along after a break-up then chances are you'd drift apart after one/both of you get in another committed relationship, anyway.

My question is more like......why WOULDN'T you date your best friend if he/she was available?

im not a guy but i know from expierience that if the girl is very close to you then you dont want to date her. i dated a guy that was a friend of mine and when i broke up to him, he stopped talking to me. so you might not want to lose a friend like that.

yes. I call her "wife" now and the mother of my son now. I'm over 30, though. That's to be expected. wait on the loving your friend thing. he's not going anywhere.

my best friend is a girl and i married her 14 years ago.

the true problem with boy/girl "friends" is that one person is always wanting more. same sex friends do not have this problem......most of the time.
