The most widespread religion in Russia is Orthodox Christianity dominated by Russian Orthodox Church. Other religions in the Russian Federation include other Christian denominations such as various Protestant faiths, Roman Catholicism, as well as Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism.
A considerable portion of the population considers themselves atheists, since several generations lived through the time of suppession of religion in the Soviet Union. Still, a significant part of atheists associates themselves culturally with the Russian Orthodoxy.
Division into different religions takes place primarily along ethnic lines: majority of Russians are Orthodox, majority of people of Turkic descent are Muslim, Judaism is almost non-existent among non-Jews. Neopaganism is on the rise, especially among Slavic people [citation needed] .
Religious Persecution - The attempts of Hare Krishna sect of Hindus to construct their temple have been met with stiff opposition. The Russian government has flip-flopped on the issue of land allocation for Hare Krishna temple. The priest of Orthodox Church denigrated Hindu God Krishna in exceptionable terms calling him satanic.

It used to be COMMUNISM. Equivalent of God was Carl Marx, Pope was Lenin.
Their mistake was that they refused to learn from other organized religions about proper brainwashing.
Am sure there are many die hard brainwashed fundamentalist Communists still there and all over the world.
Now I think they have mainly the Russian Orthodox Christians, some Muslims but the state is run by a Godly ex KGB chief.

It used to be Greek orthodox, which is like catholicism but they have there own Pope. (I think) or they don't have one at all, yikes I can't remember. But I do know Easter is the main religous observance for them. Easter is like Christmas is to us. Thats why Faberge the famous french jeweler use to design beautiful eggs at Easter, like the kind you look though or store jewels in .(He designed them for Russians I guess I should add)
