I just moved into a loft in Downtown LA. We have a Full-Time concierge (M-F, 8-5) who is very helpful... Should we tip her each time she helps us, once a month, once a year, or all of the above?

I want to make sure she knows we appreciate her help. What's normal? Someone else in our building says we don't need to, since the management covers it. Is that right?

What do you think?

THANKS! :)

You should definitely tip her once a year, during the holidays, and whenever she does something really out of the ordinary or helpful. You can tuck the tip into a thank you note that acknowledges her extraordinary service--use whether or not her action has merited a note to determine whether a gratuity is appropriate in this instance.

I would ask someone in the management department to make sure and more of the residents.
Personally, I would not feel compelled to tip them b/c you do live there and you would be broke if you did it often. They get paid for their job. Maybe tip them on days when they do something really nice for you or on Christmas or a special event type day...

You live there. Your rent pays the wages. Guests might feel compelled to tip him, but you should not as a resident.

I think that you should tip her $3.00 to $5.00 each time she helps you. And on special holidays you should give her a higher tip.
