Americans come from everywhere. When there was a surge of German immigrants after 1848, there was great fear that the German language would take over and those customs! Those people went to parks on Sundays and drank BEER! How shocking! And until World War I there were many many German language churches, schools, groceries, butcher shops etc, especially in the Midwest. When the Irish immigrated after the potato famine, there were huge outcries about how dirty, ignorant and uncouth they were. Today? You can't tell someone is a German-American or an Irish-American except if you know some typical last names. But not by language or customs. I would imagine that Hispanic immigrants will learn English by the second generation, while enriching the English language and American culture with their native langauge and cultures. Already 'Mexican' food has become standard fare, although it only vaguely ressembles that of Mexico.
And why is no one writing about the great number of East Asians who are immigrating? (Thai food and sushi are great contributions to our culture.)
I think everyone should chill.

No, us US citizens ARE NOT jealous about hispanics taking over the nation. I think it is sad, but Ill bet that the president will always be a white American male, at least forty years old.

Americans are used to being in total control and total power. And to have a minority be more populous in this country than WASPs is just too much for typical American heart. A lot of people in this country had grand parents or parents that came through Ellis Island and getting here meant a lot too them so our elders feel that they really accomplished something. Which they did. But the thing is that they are here, they made it, Their kids/grandkids/great grand kids are living here. Our elders feel like it is an intrusion upon them that they are successful ijn the U.S. and now other minorities want to do the same thing that they did. I personally dont know what the appeal of America is. I know that we have it great and we are the land of milk and honey, etc, etc, etc. Yeah yeah yeah. Except that we probably wont be like that much longer. Bush has screwed us over really good and if every one was tolerable of us before, they wont be now.

Well you are right about one thing. It is projected that by the late 2010s (cir. 2017 or so) There will be more hispanics in the US then caucasians (whites).

In my opinion who cares. But the issue here is the idea that we (the us) could be in a series of wars where our president is preaching about national security, but then turns around and encourages unregulated immigration.

Its not a race issue, at least not for me. Its a wartime issue.

What is American after all? Is it about race? What race will that be? 'Cause one can't see many Native Americans on the streets, right? It's only about being an US citizen, simple as that. Anyone could be an American citizen, be it black, white, red, orange or green.... so I think this is only a question of language. I believe one has the right to speak whatever language he likes. Has America ceased to be the land of the freedom?

I think that alot of Americans are jealous, and they wish that they could live and save money like hispanics. About 90% of hispanics drive nice vehicles, are very clean cut, and not in debt. They save to get the things that they want. I think that by hispanics being in the U.S.A., it is a better place. Yes, i am 100% american.

If the Hispanics take over, we'll all end up speaking like you.

It is because of people like you who believe you could 'take over our nation' that immigration has become the issue it is today. WE ARE TRYING TO PREVENT IT ANY WAY WE CAN, and should begin with banning the waving of the mexican flag in rallies FOR AMERICAN immigrants, not illegal aliens.
