Extensive jogging on roads and other cemented areas can do damage to your knees because there is no "give" in cement and your feet just keep slamming against it. A better place to run is on trails that are just dirt. The dirt is better in terms of impact for your knees. As far as how long you can run, it really depends on how in shape you are. Don't overdo it on the first day. Listen to your body on that one.

You can jog on a cemented area..just make sure that when you jog, your toes hit the ground first, not your heals. This takes the pressure off of your knees and back. You should start off with a 20 minute run. Make sure you run for 2 min and then walked for 2 min...run for 2 min, walk for 2 min and so on. Your body will burn fat much faster when you increase and decrease your heart rate. Move up to 30 min after about a week or 2.

Ya jogging on the cement puts a real beating on your knees. I'm a cross country runner and we run on cement and it really breaks down your knees. Try to run on the grass as much as possible it helps the impact your knees take.

it all depends on your body, if you're over weight the impact on a hard surface will hurt over time (while running your put 5x your body weight on your knee upon impact) and the disease your thinking of is ostriclaugters(spelling on that is wrong) it happens when you have a build of calcium below the knee cap causing pain while running on hard surfaces. If you have pain while running on hard surface try and find a track in your city that has the fancy all weather track (red colored kinda springy) and for how much time, your body is the ultimate judge, when it hurts stop, if it doesn't keep going.

Jogging is one of the worst exercises you can do. It destroys your Ligaments and Tendons in your legs. as well as pounding the crap out of your lower extremities. Walking is the best, followed by swimming and Bicycling!
