One year, My mom dug up snapshots of me and my brother. We made a story book,a dn on each page there was a picture of us, and it went from when we were born (pictures at the hospital) to when we were the age we were at the present. It was leatherbound, and really easy, glue and paste, and kids can do it too. The story went something like "Once there were a Mom and Dad in love..." (shows picture of the father and wife) "And then they had a beautful baby.." It sounds cheesy, But with the spontaneous pictures and thoughtfullness, and of course originality, its sure to spread a tear of happiness more than any other gift would.

Are you going to see him? How old are you?
My dad is exactly like yours. He isnt high-tech. He doesnt play golf. He has anything he could ever possibly want, etc.
What I have done for the past 5 years or so is just give him a great freaking day. Ihappen to have a boat...so I load him and my mom up, fill the cooler full of his favorite beer and margarita's, make up CD's of his favorite tunes, get him the biggest fattest cigars that he would ever enjoy, get him away from the home and allow him to relax. I fix him a big fat steak, just the way he likes, with all the fixens, wait on him...etc. Before I had the boat, we just did this stuff around my house...it doesn't matter. You have to have food and drinks anyway...so it isn't really expensive...sure, there is nothing really to open...but, if your dad is like mine, he hardly ever just takes a day to relax...so giving him that is awesome...it shows that you understand him, his likes, you get to spend time with him and make him happy. What could be better?
Heck, I cant think of a better present for myself!

Depends on your age and your Dad's age. Is he into sports if so two tickets to his favorite team game, is he a fan of Bush (the Pres) then have an autographed photo of him sent to your Dad or a birthday card from the White House. A model of his favorite sports car or boat (if you can't afford the real thing). May some of these will get you thinking in the right direction.

First, make sure it is homemade! Nothing beats something that is orginal, not bought from Target for $12.99. It could be a picture frame that you've glued certain things on, maybe, or a classic cup that holds pens. I recommend that you shy away from cheesy presents though and cook him a nice meal. He will appreciate that it's made by you and even if it doesn't taste so good he will tell you it was wonderful, no matter what.

Unique, practical, thoughtful......
Put everything aside and just spend an entire day with the old guy doing something he WANTS to do. Devote your time to him, listen to him, talk with him. go for a walk, lunch, or just sit and chat. Be sincere and interested in what he has to say.... get to know him better.
Probably the best 'gift' you can give.

It's not the amount you spend, It's all about weather or not it comes from your heart. Make somthing! You could make a giant card. That would make any dad get choked up.
