You actually can get food into your lungs but it is difficult. It is called asperation. Liquids are the most commonly asperated foods but again this is very unusual unless a person has had a stroke or other injury. There is separate opening for your lungs that closes when you swallow. Occasionally something will pass this area but you usually will then cough it back up.
So...yes it is possible but not very probable.

Yes food can go down the wrong tube into your lungs its called aspirating. If the food is left in the lung it can cause aspiration pneumonia which in very young, very old, and immuno suppressed people can cause death if not treated. If you still feel like your having pain go to the doctors just to be safe.

While it is pretty hard for a normal person to get food in their lungs people who are impaired by drinking too much or drugs can aspirate food. People who have neuro muscular diseases can also get food in their lungs.

Definitely Yes....If you try to talk while eating, take a breath, the air intake will bring food into your lungs. Then you will start coughing, as your body will try to expell the food. I have had this happen many times eating rice. Rice is so small and light that if you inhale thru your mouth, with food in your mouth, it goes into your lungs. I have had this happen so many times that I don't talk when I eat rice. I saw the rice thing happen to someone I was eating with too. She also was talking and eating rice. I have had it happen with donuts with a powdered sugar coating. The powdered sugar is so light, it can easily get inhaled.
I have seen liquids get into the lung also because I was not paying attention to drinking the liquid.
I have had my sinus's drip liquid into my lungs. You don't have to inhale for this to happen. There is a kind of latch that closes and opens when you eat or breath. The sinus drip happens to drop in while you are breathing.

Yes. Haven't you ever choked and coughed while eating? It is called dysphagia. In extreme cases, thickened liquids and pureed food are necessary. Some people require feeding through a tube surgically implanted into the stomach. These measures are for accident victims, strokes, even old age.

Yes it is called aspiration. Usually your cough reflex will prevent this from happening on an alert person. It happens frequently on an unresponsive patient and can cause aspiration pneumonia.
