I think the easist answer is that is it easier to believe someone than to look things up for yourself. When I was a child, I believed (almost) everything my parents said, just because they said it. (although I didn't always listen . . .) I think it is in our nature to trust other people. We do not like confrontation, and we do not want to think that someone we trust is wrong.

Matthew 7:15 ¶ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

We are however, commanded to study.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Which of course, takes reading to learn that. Reading the Bible takes study, it takes effort, and it takes work, and it takes a kind of love that we are not used to. I was once told that when you love your spouce, it is emotional, when you love God, it is intellectual. In order to want to study the Bible, you must have a love for it and a love for God. You must have an intellectual love, that is not based on emotions, but faith and trust. It is always easier to believe someone else that to take the time to study for yourself.

Also, if you study the Bible for yourself, you will find things that you are doing wrong, and are now mentally accountable for your actions. People do not like to change, and thus if they hear what they want to hear, they will not look any further into it.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Because people are either too lazy to actually open the bible or instead of spending time in God's Word like they should they would much rather open up some sappy romance novel or something that doesn't help give them a closer realationship with Jesus Christ. Thats about the best answer I can give you. The only place they will find the Truth is in the bible.

Well, lots of reasons for me.
The Bible is NOT infallible. it was written by men and women (conveniently the books written by women were left out due to the conference of constantinople) and is no way literal truth. It cannot be simply becuase of the nature of Language and translation.
There are many other texts that predate the Bible that the bible has *stolen* some of it's content from (ie Gilgamesh and his flood)
THe Bible itself wasn't written down until 40 generations AFTER it happened - no ones memory or verbal tradition is that good at keeping details (think of the game telephone as an example)

Because the bible is too long, I suppose. Most people can't be bothered.

What frustrates me is when people quote things that they claim are from the bible when they aren't, or take things out of context and use them to "prove" points. I would love it if there was a class in high school that taught the basics of every major international religion, so there wouldn't be so many people who think they know everything about a religion when they don't. It's equally frustrating when people think anyone involved in Islam is violent, or that Hindu traditions subjugate women. If you don't know about a religion, don't argue about it. And certainly, CERTAINLY, PLEASE, for the love of all that is good and holy, don't research a religion by visitng various websites. Talk to someone who is involved in the religion, preferably someone who has believe it for a long time. Then, and only then, will you learn the truth. I believe that there is only one truth, and I honestly believe that if you did your research, you would find it, too.

PEACE!

What you're asking is an extremely broad question which doesn't have an answer. First, you need to understand that the Bible is not the book of truth for everyone; there are many religions which do not use the Bible as their guide. Perhaps being more specific will help you get the answer you're looking for.

Jews believe only they have the truth, Christians believe the same about their religion, Muslims are convinced about their own too. Clearly mass delusion is a very real phenomenon since they cannot all be right. To claim that a certain collection of books is the absolute truth is very arrogant and it's a form of primitivism. I think every religion on earth contains a healthy dose of lies.

one persons truth is anouther persons lie....one persons lie unless proven as truth by unquestionable evidence is only one persons version of the same original truth.once it gets past the orignial its no longer 100% truth..its like telephone everything gets distorted from the truth it doesnt matter the sources creditbility or the reliablity of the people relaying the message nothing once it is out of the mouth or off the pen and rewrote is 100% truth its all elaberation upon one thing or anouther---

the bible is only a rewritten verson of something that is said to have taken place and have been set down----no one now knows the 100% truth and honestly i think all religons have a common begining its just how people heard it along the way by the time we heard about religion it went through millions of people think how scrambled a message gets if passed from 10 people by 5 the original message has been altered and by 10 its typically very different

Honostly because the Bible offers more questions that answers and the answers it provides it offers no proof of. People are more apt to beleive what they can see and feel rather than what they must simply have faith in. Were all differnt and we all believe differnt things. Just because one person doesnt beleive in what you do doesnt mean they are bad or that they believe in lies. It simply means they are differnt. You can choose to hate them and call them names and say they beleive in lies in which case you will never have the chance to make friends with said person and show them your views and mabey give them the oppertunity to learn and grow from them... or you can embrace them and their differances and live in peace and learn from each other and make changes for the better. Im not saying they will always convert to your way of thinking and it doesnt make them bad not to, im saying that the good and right thing to do would be to love them no matter what and set an example that others will follow because you shine and you beleive and you help others and are open minded.
Christianity is founded on faith. Faith is not fact. If it were fact then there would be no faith. Faith is beleiving in something you dont have fact of. So in all essence because there is no fact other who do not have your faith see that you beleive in the great lie.
Look at it from all angles before throwing your way as the only way. As i said lead by example, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
I hope this helped.

The truth is not restricted to the bible. Nor is anything beyond the boundaries of the bible lies.

Seeking Truth is expensive... A book will not do it....The human spirit seeks a spirit. The Spirit of truth will engage with every honest seeker... The bible contains the words of the Father and the Son...These words are life.
