What should a friend of mine do about her chronic complainer of a father?

According to her, if he's not bitching about something or at someone, he doesn't know what to do. She got so tired of it that she told him to shut the hell up and that she didn't want to listen to his s**t anymore, and he started laughing! This is driving her nuts, and she could use some advice on how to deal with him from people who have been in the same situation.

Make absolutely no reaction at all, say nothing and do not change expression on face, walk out of room and leave him talking to himself. Stay away from him as much as is humanly possible. Best of Luck!!
