It is when too much yeast is in your vagina. It can be caused by different things. I have had it happen due to taking antibiotics.
It itches like you have never heard nor seen. LOL
If it gets bad go to the doctor and get treatment for it.

Candidiasis, commonly called yeast infection or thrush, is a fungal infection of any of the Candida species, of which Candida albicans is probably the most common.
Yeast organisms are always present in all people, but are usually prevented from "overgrowth" (uncontrolled multiplication resulting in symptoms) by naturally occurring microorganisms.
At least three quarters of all women will experience candidiasis at some point in their lives. The Candida albicans organism is found in the vaginas of almost all women and normally causes no problems. However, when it gets out of balance with the other "normal flora", such as lactobacilli (which can also be harmed by using douches), an overgrowth and symptoms can result. Pregnancy, the use of oral contraceptives and some antibiotics, and diabetes mellitus can lead to an increased incidence in yeast infections.

some of the most common symptoms are itching and irritation of the vagina and/or vulva, and a whitish or whitish-gray discharge that may have a "yeasty" smell like beer or baking bread. It may resemble cottage cheese. Many women mistake the symptoms of the more common bacterial vaginosis for a yeast infection. In a 2002 study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, only 33 percent of women who were self treating for a yeast infection actually had a yeast infection. Instead they had either bacterial vaginosis or a mixed-type infection. Currently, bacterial vaginosis can only be diagnosed during a doctor's visit.

To define it, any infection caused by yeast.
Yeasts are a group of unicellular fungi (in contrast to the multicellular and filamentous) that multiply by budding or by fission.
Candida albicans is one of the most commonly known yeast, which causes many different kinds of infections in humans. Candidal vaginitis is common among women. Candida albicans is a commensal organism in our body and assumes pathogenicity (becomes pathogenic) when our immunity goes down or becomes impaired due to one reason or another.
You should also appreciate that there are beneficial yeasts too !!
For example, the Baker's yeast.

It is a fungus that gets in your vaginal area, it can also live in the male penal area as well as the mouth or can spread as a rash over the entire body. Yeast is found naturally in the body but when the normal flora is disrupted an infection will occur and must be treated by OTC or prescription medications please contact a physician if this is your first infection or if it does not clear up after 7 days of treatment.

sounds like a urinary tracht infection. classic symptoms! drink lots of water and have a glass of cranberry juice every day, my urologist told me i could never take tub baths again ,so i am committed to only have showers. guess what? i havent had any more infections. a yeast infection is very uncomfortable as you have severe vaginal itching and a white discharge. you dont usually get this unless you are sexually active. if your symptons dont clear up you need to re-visit the doctor. sometimes they put you on an anti-biotic that is called broad spectrum until they get the results back from the lab, then they will know exactly which medication will work. hope this helps you till you see your doctor.
