I feel that sometimes it's both. The Christian needs to respect the right of the atheist to not believe in God and the atheist need to respect the right of the Christian to believe in God. When you try and force your opinions or beliefs (or in the case of the atheist, non-beliefs) on someone, then you are being a hypocrite. I don't like it when a Christian tries to make someone see it their way. Debating the issues is one thing, but forcing it on somebody is another. Just present it, mainly by living according to what the Bible teaches and then share what it has done for you and also as an answer to those who are searching for truth.
I equally dislike it when an atheist wants to stop those who desire to express or celebrate their faith by trying to get laws passed to stop observances of certain holidays or the removal of decorations or symbols or anything that they think is pushing a particular religion. If someone wants to pray or share their beliefs they ought to be allowed to do so. They should agree to disagree and respect each others' preferences. There has to be some tolerance on both sides.

Considering that atheists represent the vast minority, and are almost universally despised by religious people, the answer seems obvious. In the west, Christians represent 80% of the population nominally, of which at leats half are serious believers. They are at least 4 times as big as any other group, and dominate both society and politics, yet they have a persecution complex nonetheless.

Well, if you want to generalize Christianity and Atheist. I would have to say Christianity. Because, Christianity is a general description for anyone who believes in Christ.
(Please Note; I am dislexic and can't spell large words that well. I will try to get it as close as possible.)
That would include, Protastants, Catholics, Episcopalians, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses (Which to me are the WORST!!!!) and many others.
Atheists for the most part just want to live their life online with little or no fuse. They have a belief system, THERE IS NO GOD. NO GOD NO PROBLEMS!!!!
personally, I am a Jew, so in the event of you reading this, please don't tell me I will go to hell if I don't find Jesus. My people created, Jesus!!!! He was a rabbi.
If you are generalizing the term Christian to include anyone who follows the teachings of, Christ. Then you have my vote for the Christians being the worst of the two.

Since when is it a contest? I think this is meant as nothing more then to encourage the intolerance that already exists between the two. Really who cares..........for every Christian's answer it's the Atheists, and to every Atheists it's the Christians. It just depends on who answers and responds. UGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
See look at what you've started, just a contest of who hates who more. It's really sad, and you've just encouraged a bunch of people to slam and talk about why they hate or dislike the others.
Yeah Baby, soooo much love to go around yet none of it can be found here, for sure!!!!! It really is a sad day. Can of WORMS!!!! I say.......and you opened it.

I'm gonna have to say Atheists.
EDIT: Isn't this about the reputation? Atheists get a REALLY bad Rap in America...
If we're talking about how bad positions ACTUALLY are, I'm gonna have to say it's a case-by-case scenario.
There can be bad Christians and Bad Atheists. There are a lot more Bad Christians though...

All the religions have a bad rep.. people think in such a worldly way, but God has a whole different way of looking at things. People think they know so0o0o much but they really don't. Scientists and curious people try to analyze everything, but they can't, because they don't have HIGHER level thinking. So as long as humans continue to think they know everything, there will be controversy and bad reps on religion, sorry to say. There will be a day when people have to realize that only God knows everything....

When is the last time you heard of an atheist attacking an non believer.Religions have been slaughterng each other in the name of thier god,you know mine is the true god, yours is fake,Even worse they justify this senseless slaughter in the name of some merciful god You know in medieval times they used to try some poor woman for witchcraft The master of ceremonies was the leading christian dignitary The trial was quite simple, the poor woman was tied up and thrown into a pool if she floated she was dragged out and burned at the stake, alive if she drowned she was carried out blessed and buried in hallowed ground and her mortal soul was saved Religious justice

Why do you think Christians have a "bad reputation?" What do you think Christians have a "bad reputation" for anyways? I think "bad reputation is the wrong phrasing. If you mean to ask who has it off worse, the answer would probably be Atheists.

Atheists, because there are more Christians that accuse the Atheists of being immoral for not believing than there are Atheists that complain about Christians believeing in there God.
