And what if you've taken driving school? My understanding is school negates the points..but is it still in your driving history? ~ and for how long?

In Missouri it's 3-7 years depending on the violation.

36 months in CA. You can take traffic school if you have not had a ticket in 18 months to knock off 1 point off your record.

i have held a cdl in 3 states and been ticketed in 10 states and canada-for the most part its 3 years unless hand cuffs and a FREE RIDE-lol were involved
