basic is about 90% mental and 10% physical. go there knowing that you will be called names, put down, etc. they will break you down as an individual to build you and the rest of the trainees into a mean, green, fighting machine as a group!! have fun, i did!!!

Good Luck! It is tough, my son graduated from Ranger School May 25th class 15-501. There is a website on Army physical requirements check Army Ranger. Sprint - walk & sprint, walk &etc.- sprint for leg strength. Do push ups.
Requires 6,8,10 mile road marches with full pack (40lbs)
5 mile run - 8 min a mile 40 mins +/-15 sec.
15 mins in water in gear including boots ( my son said they felt like they weighed 50 lbs alone)
49 push ups, 59 sit ups, 2 mile run - all under 15.2 mins.
6 pull ups
Sometimes it is a trick & they say 60 push ups to get in Ranger school but they take that top numbers in my son's class the minmum accepted was 78 push ups.
He says hang tough & you will be fine. Take care of your feet.
Try to add extra weight in muscle as the weight loss is 20-40 lbs.
Don't let the mental get to you - they are trying break you.

Practice perseverience. That will help you through just about every physical and mental challenge before you. Anything the Army asks you to do in training has been done before. You just have to be willing to do what it takes to meet the standards and never quit. Physically, you should focus on running. It is amazing how much of your worth will be determined based on your running ability. While you may or may not think this is fair - it is the way it is - accept it and start training. All of the other physical training will come with time (push-ups, sit-ups, ruck marching), but running is the one that will benefit you the most to arrive with.

Run, run, run. Be able to run 5 miles easily, walk 20+. Strengthen your upper body with pull ups and horizontal bars... shoulder strength more important than most think. ALWAYS PUSH PAST BEING TIRED TO DEAD TIRED, THEN GO ANOTHER 20%.
Try both physical exercise and critical thinking tests (available at bookstores) on no sleep or short sleep. Good luck

PHYSICALLY BE ABLE TO RUN LONG DISTANCE BECAUSE YOU WILL RUN YOUR *** OFF. DO PUSH UPS UNTIL YOU ARE PURPLE IN THE FACE, BLUE ISN'T BRIGHT ENOUGH, AND CRUNCHES (SIT UPS) UNTIL YOUR ABS ARE ROCK HARD.
NO JUST KIDDING JUST KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING TO RUN A LOT AND DO PUSH UPS AND SIT UPS AND BTTER FLIES AND ARM LIFTS AND SPREAD EAGLES AND RUN AND RUN SOME MORE.
MENTALLY BE READY TO BE BROKE DOWN TO TEARS AND JUST A PILE OF GOO AND THEN THEY BUILD YOU BACK UP, PEICE BY PEICE INSILLING IN YOU THE IMPORTANCE OF ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND COMERADERY, AND JUST KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO BE THE BEST SOLDIER YOU CAN BE.
GOOD LUCK AND ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES
THAT IS WHAT I WAS TOLD AND IT WORKED FOR ME.
