Satan deceives and lies to people, eventually controlling their brain if they let him. Thats when everything starts goin downhill.

As soon as you believe something, your conscious mind sets it in concrete. If subconsciously you are insecure about this belief, and something comes along to threaten this belief system, your conscious mind views this as a personal attack. Now if you are an alpha personality your instinct is to attack that threat.
If your subconscious is secure in your belief, and something comes along to challenge this belief, your conscious mind is not threatened, and you can listen with a rational mind.
A healthy belief system should welcome challenges, and be willing to evolve.
