Is it likely that the canary had the air sack mites when bought from the pet store? I have already encountered a large vet bill for this and I've only had him for a month.

Air sac mites will usually kill a bird within 2 to 3 weeks of the bird getting them. Air sac mites is a fairly common illness in Gouldian finches and canaries. The best treatment finch breeders have found to cure air sac mites is a product called Scatt. You can buy it here:

Good luck with your canary, hope he pulls through.

Yes buying birds from a pet shop is really bad in the first place. No telling where the bird came from or from what conditions it was taken out of to get to the pet shop for sale. The mites are probly the reason the bird supplier to the pet shop got rid of the bird. I don't know the incubation time, but if you don't have a written warenty on the health of your bird from the pet shop, you may be out the money unless you sue them for your incurred bills. I would go back to the pet shop and ask questions about their birds and before you buy one, what is the health warrenty on the birds in the store? Dont tell them your problem until after you get all your questions answered to see what they will say without knowing you are threat to them so to speak. Find out what their policy is and how long you'd have before bringing the bird back to turn into them. I hope you kept your bird AWAY from all of your other birds if you have anymore because those mites will live in all your birds if that 1 bird was any where near the others. And an air sack is major cause for concern here. I think the pet shop sold the bird infected already because if you don't have a history of this problems with any of your other birds before getting this one, then thats probly the case. I would find out what their answers where, then go home and bring the bird back to them with vet reciepts in hand and purchase reciepts and try and at the very least get a refund for the bird and if they give you flack over it, take them to small claims court in that city, because they are selling sick birds and no telling how many other people got one of these sick birds? How many other people suffered the loss of their birds and how many other cases have been brought against this pet shop you may not even know about yet? And how many others will come forward against the pet shop for having bought a sick bird from them that died? We have to speak for those who can not speak for themselves!

i do not accept as true with it and there'll continuously be those who spend their money on those issues in the previous the necessities. although I do imagine that's an abuse of human rights and privateness to attempt this. because they receives those different non-necessities from someplace. perchance they're going to promote the nutrition they purchase and promote it at a more cost-effective value to purchase the failings they choose and performance even a lot less nutrition than in the previous. accordingly transforming into a black marketplace in bartering. susceptible those with addictions will be exploited on the black marketplace and performance even a lot less nutrition. that's more cost-effective for the authorities to pay their money right into a economic corporation account. And that's as a lot because the guy to spend it besides they choose. in the adventure that they don't spend it properly then they could bypass to their mothers and fathers, friends, or soup kitchens for nutrition. there are countless again up platforms there if you happen to do not spend properly.
