The Catholic hospitals are against the morning after pill because the Catholic Church teaching states that all artificial contraception is immoral. They shouldn't be forced to because they are protected by religious freedom.

Of course they should hand it out and if they don't they should be made to by law or be made to get out of the health care business. If they want to live their moral's they can be ministers and not doctors. Actually almost EVERY state that I know of requires all pharmacies to dispense medication on an "as needed" basis (i.e., here's my prescription, i'm not here for the sermon, just my medicine). EVEN Wal-Mart was MADE to carry this pill by the Federal Court System, so yes, its a LEGAL decision, not an ethical or moral one, they are IN THE BUSINESS of serving their customers not dictating their customers morality.

If they don't want to LEGALLY prescribe the pill and still not get in legal HOT WATER the only way I could suggest would be to tell the rape victims, etc., of their option to obtain it through their own doctors within 72 hours of the forcible intercourse. If there is no way for the patient to obtain it within that time, the Hospital has NO other option than to give it out or be sanctioned, legally and by the Medical establishment, which is only right. Once again, anyone who's worked with the public can tell you its not fun and sometimes you have to do things you don't want, but you do them. Why, because as Jesus said "Render unto Ceaser what is Ceasers." i.e., obey the laws of the land.

Catholic Church is protected under Freedom of Religion not Catholic Hospitals. Catholic Hospitals are probably Chartered under some government Health organization, big difference.

How can some of you say these things? all of thes posts are false, or misleading. THE MORNING AFTER PILL DOES KILL THE FERTILIZED ZYGOTE WHICH IS A FULL HUMAN BEING BY NOT ALLOWING IT TO IMPLANT ON THE SWOLLEN WALLS OF THE UTERUS. IT ENDS A LIFE. It is sinful. Why can't people protect all people equally regardless of race, religion, nationality, age, from 999 yrs old to a fertilized zygote life is life, it is GOD's to give and GOD's to take away. Also, contraception is a grave problem. You can't use contraception. GOD gave us sex as a way to mimic the blessed trinity! See god the father loved the son so much and the son loved the father that their love (let's not be teens, this is non sexual love) that the holy spirit was begotten of their love! Sex emulates that. A man so loves his wife and a woman so loves his husband that they conceive a child. Also does GOD not say "what he has joined together let no man seperate?" Aren't sex and the creation of children naturally put together? We sin when we seperate the two. Actually contraception leads to abortion (which the morning after pill is a form of) because when contraception fails there are unwanted babies that need to be "disposed of". Sinful, that is all I can say.

P.S. I am 17 and am going to be a priest.

THE MORNING AFTER PILL IS ABORTION!

Ragsdee killing, murdering, or aborting of a innocent life (specially your own) for the sake of convenience or embarrassment is hard to understand, let alone to forgive!

Sadly today Governments endorse and support taking an Innocent life on non-medical grounds. Religion has more to do with business than true faith and respect in God's will on earth. I cry inside for the inhumanity of society and how we have lost our way! "For the love of God, NO!","For the love of money, YES!" and in this lies your answer!

I would like to add because of the way society has become people are being pressured and believe that this is the only way out and if they want to do it it's there body. They are not accountable but they forget it takes two and once the egg is fertilised God gives it a soul and it is life! To end this life must only be a last resort based medical grounds!

Where is the love, responsibility and respect when we kill with no remorse and such ease? Who is supporting this and why? God will judge them in time but we need to reflect, be remorseful, learn then grow, and look after our souls.

I do think they should - because if they're going to operate as a hospital then they should offer treatment to patients that come in. And denying people the morning after pill, is denying them medical care. Medical care they may really need.

So, while the church is welcome to not agree with the act of sex with contraception involved I think that they butt up against a giant blurry line with this one. I don't agree with religious hospitals or pharmacists denying the morning after pill based on their 'beliefs'.

YES!!
Morning after Pill does NOT end a life, it stops it from starting. NOTHING wrong with that, birth control works the same way.

2 way.
No they shouldnt because churches do not condone pre-marital sex anyway. and that is usually what the pill is USUALLY used in association with...
But as a hospital they should, because in my case i was raped, and hospitals can treat rape victems and rape vitems dont have a choice of the conception or not.
its really not a matter of religion in this case but more of maintaining a status as a hospital to serve its paitents.
