Take it one step at a time. Start walking everywhere. If you go to the store, park as far away from the entrance as possible. Go for walks. Volunteer. It won't go away quickly, but it WILL go away. Good luck!

There is always hope, just as long as you are looking for something seriously. I will not say it's not totally how much you eat but in large measure it's what you eat. Breads and potato's and other starches are very bad to add on pounds. No pill is the answer either no matter what the ads say. Sure there is surgery but that is very drastic and at times dangerous to you. If you are serious then realize that it's very very difficult but worth it. You have to convince yourself first then strive to not give up. Check out the web for nutritious diets that give you the nutrients that your body needs and realize that you must also supplement any diet with, yes, exercise. Taken in measure and by consulting a doctor because you start very slow and work up. You are talking about a year or multilayer process to achieve what you want. See a doctor also as it is worth it. if you don't, given your weight and the toll it's taking on your body and organs, look around and notice that there aren't very many people living too long with your weight. Life is worth working for and I know you can do it the question is do you know you can? Will it be easy? No. Painless? No .. Worth it .. Definitely.

I have seen several good answers here.
Please remember, Surgery should be the last resort.
I myself am an overweight male. I have lost 30 pounds recently and have not had to starve myself. It is my belief you have a slow metabolism like myself. With a slow metabolism conventional diets DO NOT WORK. When a person diets the body goes into starvation mode because your body thinks it might be awhile until you eat again. So when you do eat your body turns all the food into fat. I eat about every 2-3 hours usually closer to 3. I have 4-6 ounces of protien, 1/2 cup carbs, 1-2 cups veggies, and 1/2 cup to 1 cup fresh fruit.
I limit my carbs to 3 meals out of 6. If I am going to be exercising in the morning I eat 1 cup carbs and 1 cup fruit with my meal prior to exorcise. My last meal of the day is usually just a snack of 1/2 cup fresh fruit.
I drink atleast 100 ounces of water every day. Coffee, unsweetened tea, are also ok but I prefer plain water.
Fresh fruits and veggies are best. Also you might lower your salt/sodium intake since sodium in any form makes a person gain water weight.
Walking is a great form of exercise and there was some great ideas on ways to get more walking done in previous answers.
Good luck and remember there is always hope.

Start slow. Next time you head for the refrigerator, turn left, go down the hall and get your tennis shoes, put them on and go for a walk.
Make a list of all the reasons you want to lose weight (to have more energy, for the sake of your marriage, to feel better about yourself, to look better in your clothes, to have an excuse to buy NEW clothes in a smaller size, to live longer). Put the list on the fridge, on the kitchen cabinet where you keep the oreos, and on the checkbook you take with you every time you go to the grocery store.
Enlist the help of family and friends. It's easier to lose weight if you have the support of the people around you.
Good luck.

There are people like you in their 50s. Many have diabetes. Most of their knees are bone on bone which prevents them from working. People like you 60 and older are rare.
My son finally woke up in his late 20s. In less than a year he dropped over 200 lbs thru diet and exercise. It can be done if you want to live.

Are you a guy or a girl?
Just go on a diet if you feel so big! Anyway if you are tall it doesn't really matter your weight. Try talking to a doctor about the problem. They might be able to give you a perscription or talk to you about ways to get slimmer! Hope i could help! (also try things like NutriSystem and Jenny!

I have a friend that did the rubber band, it worked for her and several others I've heard talk about it. alot of it could be low self asteem and depression, its hard to get motivated , but try getting around more, simple changes to your diet and activities will help more than you can imagine and you have to be head strong, dont give up hope. Hope for the best, take care of your self if you dont no one else will.

diets are tough, but u can try one. definitely go to the doctor and ask him/her for the best opinion. you could also look into hospitals that are conducting studies on weight/diet, they might have a program you can try. last option would be bariatric surgery (stomach stapling). it works but there are a lot of risks. in high school i weighed about 300lbs, i lost 130 of it and it took about 2 yrs (most of it was in the first year though). i did it by old-fashioned eating less and moving more. whatever it is you try, good luck! :)
