My husband and I both take Methadone, I was in a car accident that dislocated 5 discs in my spine, my husband's spinal column is narrowing and shrinking and he has several degenerating discs. He takes 8 10mg pills a day, I only take 2-3 10mg pills a day. So I know ehat you are going through and NO- we have NEVER done Heroin- to all the ignorant peeps out there. One thing Mehtadone does is instead of making you HIGH it goes in and contacts the actual pain receptors. Mathadone is unlike any other opiates becuase it absorbs into your tissue, making it extrememly hard to get out of your system! Now if you were just cut cold turkey off of Vicodin, you are probably experienceing withdrawls from that, and the Methadone won't help the psychological aches and pains of the loss of the Vicodin. Take about 3-4 days to get the Vicodin out of your system and if by then you aren't getting better go see your doctor. Good Luck!

Methadone will help with chronic pain but it doesn't help with acute pain. So if your doctor has you on Methadone he should also be giving you something to take for breakthrough pain. Such as Vicodin or Percoset.

And for those who do not understand Methadone is used for MUCH MORE than heroin addiction.

I feel bad so many people are picking on you for this. I know that Methadone is COMMONLY used for fibromyalgia and many other disorders. Just because her mom doesn't take it...that has nothing to do with you. They have issues...no worries. I got your back!

Vicodin, Norcos, ect...not going to touch pain as well as methadone. I was on vicodin 13 yrs. I finally asked to be switched to methadone. The vicodin wears off faster and it has alot of Tylenol in it. A 7.50 is 7 mg. Hydrocodone 50 mg tylynol.
Methadone has no aspirin.Methadone last much longer .

Don't go higher unless prescribed by a physician. Painkillers have a tendency to build up tolerance---that's why it is always on those labels not to take them longer than 2 weeks, sometimes even less. So no matter what, you need to go to a physician and see if you can get a different kind of medication that cambats your pain better.
Good Luck

BE CAREFUL OF METHADONE!!! I had a friend who died after taking methadone because of respiratory problems his Dr. should have monitored him for. Now his widow and 4 children have to deal with his loss every day.

Don't you think you should be asking your doctor these questions? Honestly do you think you are going to get a safe and legit answer from people on yahoo? Methadone is a serious drug ...CALL YOUR DOCTOR.

Talk to your Dr. and tell him that it isn't working by itself. Hopefully he will either give you something else, or change your medication completely. The Dr. put me on anti-depressants which is supposed to block the pain centers in the brain, muscle relaxers, as I have muscle spasms, and prescription strength naproxen. I can't take nsaids.
Good Luck.

You are either lying or badly mistaken...you are only taking Methadone if you are a heroin addict.
