Of course she slapped you, any woman with half a brain and some sort of selfworth and esteem would do so. You may admire a womans legs at any time, there is nothing wrong with that, but don't embaress her or patronize her by yelling at her walking down down a street. Thats not a compliment. Didn't your mother teach you better than that?? It's like the old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.

Fair? No. You shouldn't have made the comment (it's considered rude in society right now), but she shouldn't have worn the skirt (she was kind of inviting it, plus she should be modest in public). So, I would say that she had a right to be miffed at your comment, but DEFINITELY no right to slap you. That's just inappropriate.

Well, most women/girls don't like people they don't know staring at them and making comments that can be viewed as sexual, even if that is not how you meant it. She shouldn't have slapped you, but you shouldn't have said anything. So it's really pretty fair as far as that goes.

You shoulda slapped the ***** back. You gave her a complement, she shoulda taken it gracefully and smiled and walked on.
She had no right to slap you. I have a rule, if you hit..... you get hit back. She shouldn't have been wearing a short skirt if she didn't want the attention.

Was that fair? What are you in the 1st grade. You must have deserved it. Sounds like she should go get her friends and have them all slap you too.

Paying a person a compliment is always welcomed. Unfortunately, in today's world, people don't know what a compliment is. And because of today's world, if there was nothing else to this story, I would have her arrested for assault.
PS: a lot of people say he yelled it at her. Where in his question did he say he yelled? So don't try to justify your agreement with her.

No, and definitely a case of public assault. This is a case where the punishment exceeds the crime, and I mean a crime, dude. Next time you see a pair of nice legs, just say it to yourself, or better yet, ignore it until your actually having coffee with the girl. No pun intended, dude. (-:

Yup. A nicer way to have said it would have been - "you look great in that skirt". She prolly would have talked to you, rather than slapped you.
