The liberal arts school at my university was called "Literature, Science and the Arts." Does that help? It is basically all that stuff that is not directly related to a career, but which will make you a well-educated, well-rounded person.
That and a couple of dollars may get you a cup of coffee.

Liberal Arts is a major in college that you can take, especially when you dont know what your major should be..(for example if you want to major in psychology, marketing, that would be a major)
Usually most people take Liberal Arts until they can decide, the courses are general ones like English, Math, etc. You can usually apply most of the courses you have taken in Liberal Arts when you declare a major. Many people dont decide what they want to major in, and graduate from Junior college (2 yrs) with a Liberal Art degree..

It's the major you choose when you don't know what you wanna be when you grow up yet! :)
Rather than locking yourself into a program of study you may not end up having any interest in and wasting all that money and classtime...Liberal Arts majors are given a broad range of options that will fit in to many majors once you declare one.
Of course, you can always graduate with a L.A. degree and it can serve you pretty well, too. :)

A liberal arts education is one that is broad and holds an ethical committment to knowledge and intellectual abilities (over vocational/professional skills).
Such an education usually includes a wide range of courses that allows a student to develop their ability to crtically examine their world, analyze, and understand their world while developing skills (mainly writing, reading, and speaking) that voice their opinion and ideas. There is also importance placed on learning from different perspectives, having openness of mind, and (hopefully) integrating knowledge and effort to solve the world's problems.
