depends on their ages. when they are teens they like to think they know everything, but my son is 17 months old and he seems to understand everything I say to him!! they are just very smart I guess.

This day and age children ARE understanding a lot more because of the television and movies. But I have noticed that my age 11 just pretends to understand and know everything to be a part of the conversation. But good luck on understanding that. Im sure kids do know more than we would like them too.

Whatever!
The other morning, on the way to dropping her off at her fancy-pants Montessori school, my 4-year-old daughter asked me why was there dew on the car windshield but not on the driveway. I pointed out that water molecules form bonds with the silica in glass, but not with oil, such as in the pavement. She gave an exasperated sigh and said, "Oh Mama, I don't want to talk about this anymore!"
Yeah, real understanding.

kids are innocent, and so they think that everything they learn can be related to something in their everyday lives. Therefore, they start to relate everything to everything else. They really are trying to understand the deeper meaning of things, even if they dont even understand the surface meaning of things. They want adults to approve of them, and by "understanding" everything, they think adults will respect them more.

Think of it like this. If you have a 5 year old you have only known them for 5 years, they have known you all of their life. Sometimes I think kids know their parents better then the parents know themselves. Also keep in mind that kids learn what they live, and even if they can not verbalize it they are sucking up this knowledge like a sponge.

"Everything?"
I think not!!! I sent my 4 year old to rebuild the engine on my car like 8 hours ago. He doesn't even have the head off yet! I guess someone's not getting dinner tonight!

Because they have not spent a long life learning inhibitions and limitations. Their minds are much freer than an adult's in a lot of ways.

because children are immature, and they think they know everything because they have nothing else to prove to the world that they are the world
