as I’m reading your responses, I'm especially disturbed by "Txles"’s response ,saying” it’s racist to make English the official language because it would deny people jobs”, I’m sorry my dear, but obviously with today’s illegal immigration at it’s highest ,it’s not denying too many jobs or they wouldn’t keep coming. And how can you say it’s punishing a person to make them learn English? To be an America whether born or immigrated is a privilege, why not show respect and learn the language, which will help one another understand each other rather then ending in confrontation and frustration of not understanding. And here’s another question for you Txles or anyone else who thinks it racist, Is Nigeria a country in West Africa a racist country because there official language is English???

Someone said it would be punishing someone for not speaking English - How so? I don't understand how that would be. Moving to an English-speaking country and not bothering to learn English is self-punishment enough. There's not much we can do to add to it.

I agree that America is the land of opportunity, and I believe that we should welcome all those who come here legally. But hey, if you've been here for twenty-five years and still can't speak enough English to use an ATM without "pressing 2 for Espanol", well then there's not much I can do for ya.

And for those of you who think it already is - English is NOT the official language of the US. There is no official language.

I could go on and on about this question but, think about the first settlers to America, and all the immigrants that migrated to America from other countries; which makes America "United". If you think about all the migration that has taken place in the past (presently too many mexicans), who is to determine what the "official" language is suppose to be? Personally I feel it should be the english language (definately not spanish), that is my oppinion; but history is history. And, times are different now and everybody is screaming "racist/racism" just as much as they scream "lawsuit". White people need to start screaming "we have become the minority!" so we can reap financial, educational, and medical benefits as "minorities" do today.

Do you know the which nation in the world has the fifth most Spanish speaking people? It's the United States... and most of them are U.S. citizens. Over 25 million Americans speak Spanish. In the 19th century, immigrants were force to abandon their culture and language and we lost much in the process. It is interesting that we worry about security on our non-white southern border, but not on the white northern border ... from which the 9/11 terrorists crossed. Immigrants SHOULD learn English but there is a definite racist tone to much of the "official language" and immigration debates.

Hummm.... well, the last time I checked, English IS the official language of America. I think the hysterics is over the fact that Spanish is becoming a defacto official language and Americans have been brainwashed into believing that it's raciest if they refuse to accept it... the anger and frustration comes from the mixed signals from the gubbernment and from a politically correct society.

Well maybe because America is suppose to be the land of opportunity for many reasons including the fact that we are diverse support all religions and cultures and are free to choose...... punishing somone for not speaking English is racist and that's what making it the official language would do. This would mean being denied jobs for those who dont speak it which would lead to economic hardships for many........this is just one reason........America has done fine thus far why change whats not broken?

This used to be performed to conclude the Revolution paintings and deliver a countrywide cohesion and identification to many disparate locations. One used to be Auvergnat or Normand earlier than being French. It additionally allowed the federal government to be understood through all people while it post declarations and to not have got to wrestle via exceptional dialects while doing authorized bureaucracy. It labored so good that the 4 different languages disappeared.
