Well you should be married, have a stable income, your own home, and be mature. No going out at night, no movies, no parties, no shopping for the trendiest outfit (unless it's for your baby). I was 20 when I had my son but I had all of those things and was ready. Think about real hard first. Try volunteer at a nursery to kind of quench your thirst a bit. Give your friend some much needed rest and babysit for the whole day. You'll get practice and a small bit of insight into the day of a parent.
Also consider what's best for the baby. You may want a baby but if you have one to soon because of your own desire, you are being selfish. You want your child to have the world, why don't you try and get some of it for yourself first?

Well, you have a while because you need to wait until you find your soul-mate and get married before you have the responsibility of a child. You're only 16 and the wishfulness to have a baby could be admirable, but the girl you are with now MAY not be "Ms. Right" as in right for MARRIAGE. You must NOT try and have a baby with her until you're both old enough to know you can spend the rest of your lives dependng on one another and sharing all of the responsibilities that go along with raising a family!!!!! What about following these steps to success:
you graduate from high school,
go to college or techinical/trade school,
get a steady job w/a good salary,
get married
then after a few years of marriage you try for a baby!
Sweet heart don't throw away your youth. Too many people end up in divorce because of doing so and they have poor innocent kids that are involved in split up families - no good. Take my words as seriously as a heart attack and get rid of this notion of having a son right NOW. You will have your day in the sun when you walk down that aisle at the age of 26. When you are an adult and you become a father you will remember my email and be glad you did the right thing to WAIT. You may or may not be maried to the same girl... but think hard about everything you have read here and DOUBLE BAG IT if you're going to DO IT.

It is unfortunate that your girlfriend already has a son. If you are only 16, that is waaaay too young to be having kids. You don't have the means or the education to properly care for a child. So, as far as how old you should be, there is no certain age. But you need at least a high school diploma and a good paying steady job before thinking about a child, and you should preferrably be married so that the child can grow up in a good home.

OMG! Live your life, you have so much time ahead of you. Wait until your late 20's at least. I am 28, and I really want a child, but I know even I have some growing up to do first. You, for all intents and purposes, are still a baby yourself, do not try to raise one.

Live a life you'll be proud to share with your son first. At 16, what can you offer him? No doubt you feel mature and ready to love him, but having a child means you have little to no time for yourself, and 16 should be a time when all your time is for yourself! Enjoy your life!! Then enjoy making a life! ;)
