i saw some silly questions here, like 'did Jesus fart?"

i thought it would be wise to open my book with all the answers, the Bible, on how i should answer a fool.

then i read this:

PRO 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
PRO 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

am i then the only one who's still confused on how to answer a stupid question?

Thats a great question, really got me thinking. I found a more understandable translation on Bible gateway.com Its from the New Life version. It makes more sense in these terms , to me at least.
4Do not answer a fool by his foolish ways, or you will be like him.

5Answer a fool in the way he has earned by his foolish acts, so he will not be wise in his own eyes.

In other words, do not stoop to his level, show him in simple terms how foolish he is.

Here are some other verses which may help you clarify:

Pr 12:16 A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.

Pr 23:9 Do not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words.

Pr 27:3 Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but provocation by a fool is heavier than both.

Ec 2:14 The wise man has eyes in his head, while the fool walks in the darkness; but I came to realize that the same fate overtakes them both.15 Then I thought in my heart, "The fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do I gain by being wise?" I said in my heart, "This too is meaningless."16 For the wise man, like the fool, will not be long remembered; in days to come both will be forgotten. Like the fool, the wise man too must die!

Ec 6:8 What advantage has a wise man over a fool? What does a poor man gain by knowing how to conduct himself before others?

Why ignore it? The Gospel is not to be ignored.

You answer the question and turn it to the Glory of Christ.

Did Jesus fart?

I have not read that scriptural, however, He set examples for us to follow. He ate, He drank, He slept. During a life cycle, one that does not ever fat, would tend to blow up. Christ died on The Cross, He didn't blow up. I have not heard or read anywhere, He blew up.

Thanks for asking. good Question. Continue in Seeking Truth.

No, you're not confused at all - being smart enough to ignore the question is the first step to not giving the foolish question any undue time or thought!

It says the same thing twice.

The first one says do not answer a screwed up question by giving a stupid answer or you are no better then he is.

The second one says if you correct somebodies mastake you are showing that you are concieted (otherwise better then them).

Both of these together say do not belittle yourself by going down to somebodies level, but never think you are better then somebody no matter what he/she does.
