There are many hotels located in Bangkok, and quite a number are within easy access to the Skytrain for convenient travel in the traffic- logged streets.
Notably will be Arnoma Hotel on Ploenchit, or Nana Hotel or Ambassador Hotel on Sukhumvit. These should give you pretty good value for money plus easy reach to the train.

Asia hotel has always been the hot favourite if you're looking for a cheap bargain. PLUS it's very centrally and conveniently located near to everything else: MBK shopping centre, Siam Square..etc
It's a 3-4 star hotel that holds 650 rooms and it's comfortable and clean enough. One of the best thing about Asia Hotel is that it's located besides a BTS skytrain station, what else can be more convenient?
Rates for a standard twin-sharing room is about 48USD per night. Of course, this depends on the period of your travelling.
If you're looking for cheaper bargain, you can try Bangkok Palace Hotel. Location wise not as ideal as Asia Hotel as it's nearer to the outskirts but this 3-star hotel has nice interior, comfortable rooms and good service. Minus the exterior, it feels more like a 4 star when you're staying there.
Rates per night for a standard twin-sharing is 38USD and this includes daily breakfast, which the menu is not too bad.
However, if you are travelling with a few girls only. Do be careful not to flaunt your flesh or money too much as the surrounding area of the hotels are shop houses and can be rather rowdy with the locals hanging out. So dress down and walk in groups just to be safe.
Have fun in Bangkok!

Whenever I travel, I make it a point to stay in the airport hotels as they are more reasonable, close to everything and clean. When I was in Bangkok, I stayed at the "quality suite airport hotel" which is only about 10 mins. from the airport. It's considered a budget hotel.
Have fun and safe trip !

You can book in advance this will give you peace of mind. But its just as easy to land there and find accomidation yourself.
Depending on what kind of holiday you want will determine the kind of accomidation you choose. If you are on a tight budget and don't mind slumming it . Head down to Kho- San road. Its extreamly busy during high season and you might not get a hotel on the main drag. Kho-san road is a lively street with lots of outdoor cafes and freaky people hanging arround.
Otherwise if you're looking for female company Kho-San road is not the best place to go. Many hotels or guest houses will simply
deny you to check in with your guest.
Nana Plaza, Patpong and Soi Cowboy offer all kinds of entertainmant. With Patpong being the oldest and most expensive and has the most scams and transgenders. Nana plaza is relatively new same with Soi Cowboy.
Depending
upon what you intend to do will determine your accomidation style. Never let a taxi driver or Tuk-Tuk driver help you find accomidation as they get a commision and won't always offer you a place in a good location.
There are many high class family resorts that offer comforatable packages. There's also hole in the wall flophouses that offer dirt cheap stays. One thing to bear in mind is sucurity. Its a good idea to get a safety deposite box while in Thailand. Especially when you have excursions to Islands and snorkling or Scuba.
