most homes do there own embalming. some hire it out sort of like a outside contractor. good money in this. but most long time family homes have someone in or very close to the family that does the embalming. death is a biz. just like any other remember once you die your body is the waste of your remains. your soul is what counts. kind of silly spending all of that money on waste huh.

Each state has its own laws about embalming.
Embalming is not even required in some states as long as the body is buried within a certain amount of time.
Many funeral homes today are corporately owned (vs family owned) and may have their own system and guidelines for who and where embalming occurs. Most likely it IS at the specific funeral home whose services were requested.
Cremation can also be done "out of house" as well as "in house"

Yes ALL funeral homes are suppose to do ALL of their embalming,that is why you see 4 or 5 directors.
