I did the same thing right before my sister's wedding. I used Rusk Elimin8 to remove the artificial color (you will probably have to do 2 or 3 applications depending on the color you'd like to achieve), then use a hair color (tint) of your choice to color your hair the shade that you want because the Rusk Elimin8 usually leaves the hair sort of an odd color. The Rusk Elimin8 doesn't damage your hair at all and will remove just about all of the black dye so it will almost be like starting from scratch. If you try to just use dye to get your hair back to the shade you want, it will probably damage it and it'll end up just taking you longer and being more of a hassle. Good luck!

Okay, the problem with coloring your hair black--even if it's a "semi-permanent" is that it is permanent. Black is the most difficult color to remove. Especially if it has a blue/purple hint to it. You know what's gonna happen if you try to lighten it to brown? It's gonna turn red. If you attempt to lighten it for a quick fix...chances are you're gonna make it worse. You should let it fade a bit on it's own. One way to try to take the edge off: Mix a tbsp of baking soda with some shampoo. Put on a plastic cap and heat it up a bit with the blow dryer. Do this a couple of times and it will take the dark edge of freshly colored black hair. Condition is good afterward. The baking soda will make it feel dry.

You can't just change it back to brown that easily. Black is the hardest color to get out of hair. I went to beauty school so I'm not just pulling this out of my a$$ and have had my own hair dyed black. Over processing your hair is going to damage it and make it frizzy, spilt ends and it can start breaking off (I know that from experience also). If you do anything DO NOT get something from the grocery store. Go to a well known salon....not Super Cuts. You need someone who knnows what they are doing. I would recommend if you are going to do something to just get some highlights put in around your face. It'll break up the black and won't fry your entire head. I was SUPER shocked when I dyed mine black the first time, and I ended up wearing it pulled back alot so it wasn't sitting on my face. There are lots of cute ways you can pull back your hair without just throwing it in a ponytail so something might be right for your big thing. Just look in magazines for ideas. Really the best thing is to wait it out. I got used to it and ended up liking it alot and getting alot of compliments (and I have really fair skin so it wasn't that easy to pull off at first). GOOD LUCK!!!

It depends how dark your hair was. But maybe you should go to a salon and ask for a Malibu or some salons have different things for correcting your hair and it is possible for you to do something before you go to your big thing.

You will have to get the color stripped out. Do not put color on top of it, color does not remove color. If this was not permanant it might fade out some. Go to a salon that does color correction and tell them exactly what you put on your hair. If the dye is permanant then they will strip the color out and then tone your hair back to brown.

You most def need to go to a professional (known or not) just dont do it yourself. They will need to lighten your hair to get the black our since its the hardest color to lift. Even then it may take a few sessions before you get it to the shade of brown you want.

On the box of all colors is a number you can call and professionals will tell you the best way to go brown or to fix problems. You need to be careful since its "purpley".

Go to the salon and let them handle it you don't want your hair to be more screwed up than it already is.
