The Southern Baptist convention, as a whole? No. it's not true.

a individual SBC congregation be snooty? yes, very very very possible and probably likely.

That is based on every individual group of SBC's.

I was raised as a Southern Baptist, and am now associated with Jehovah's Witnesses. One of the main things that drew me to the Witnesses was their joy in welcoming newcomers to the Kingdom Hall. I am married to a black man and have a bi-racial daughter...and not a single one of the Baptist churches I attended were welcoming of us an inter-racial couple. I am not saying that ALL Southern baptists are rude or unwelcoming, but the ones I have been associated with and visited have been. It's a shame that one congregation or person can make or break a persons opinion of a religion or church, but it can.

I would say that like most all prejudices there is a grain of truth in it that applies to a portion of the people in the category and it has been exaggerated to extend to everyone in the category. That's what happens when people judge by externals instead of taking time to examine the heart like God does.

it's only someone else's ignorant opinion. just as i was taught at a younger age that catholics must be cannibals because they believe that the communion wafer and wine actually become the blood and body of christ.
