Global dimming involves a reduction in the amount of sunlight reaching the Earth caused by air pollution. There is an interactive slide show that explains more about it at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sun/dimming.html

"Some scientists now consider that the effects of global dimming have masked the effect of global warming to some extent and that resolving global dimming may therefore lead to increases in predictions of future temperature rise.

The phenomenon underlying global dimming may also have regional effects. While most of the earth has warmed, the regions that are downwind from major sources of air pollution (specifically sulfur dioxide emissions) have generally cooled. This may explain the cooling of the eastern US relative to the warming western part"

There are two different things, but don't really cancel each other. Like taking sleeping pills and uppers at the same time.
The dimming comes from jet contrails reflecting light back into space. Then parts don't get sunlight, evaporate water, droughts happen. Global warming fuels storms and shifts climates.
