I have straight black hair and thinking of adding colour to my hair. Does this mean i have to bleach my hair before adding colour? Are there any colours that i can dye into my hair without using bleach? i was thinking purple maybe pink?

I am a professional haircolorist...You can color your hair without using bleach and without causing any damage. However, to create vibrant unnatural tones like pink and purple you would have to bleach it to a very light pale yellow blonde. If you don't lighten your hair enough the color you choose will be dull, and will not last long at all. You can bleach your hair without damaging it---if your hair is healthy. Of course it will compromise the integrity of the hair a bit....it's still gonna be shiny and look good though. Do it! I love the contrast of the colors.

Anytime you dye your hair (whether or not you pre-lighten) it will damage your hair. Most fashion colours do require pre-lightening first to be seen on your hair colour. Permanent, demi-permanent, and semi-permanent will all lighten your hair anywhere from 1-4 shades depending on the level of the developer. If you do pre-lighten I recommend applying a layer of a light leave-in conditioner before applying the colour, this will help minimize the damage.

Please dint do that because if you do you will be looking like a leprechaun your will turn green. You need to slowly die you hair first start by dyeing your hair with a color not a high volume color a color that's close to what you want and then work your way up to the color you desire over time but please don't bleach or start pink it only make you hair fall out or make you look like a fool.

That's not bleaching or harming your hair it's just adding color to what you've already got. Use a good conditioner though...I like Pantene Sleek and Slim....it makes your hair silky.

you can get purple tones wthout bleaching, but it will be dark purple. To get pink, you will have to bleach and it will damage your hair. Bleaching makes it more porous. However, if done correctly, the damage can be managed.

I would suggest Wella Magma. It lifts and colors all in one process. I have seen great results on Asian hair for adding a touch of color here and there and/or large sections.

You don't have to bleach to color hair. And dying hair is damaging no matter what. You can dye your hair any color.

no matter what color you dye your hair, as long as you dye it it will harm the condition of it and it is very hard to fix it.

no aslong as you keep the hair oiled and get deep conditioners. The aphogee treatment is good for minority people. I have used it and got great results.
