I was in the military in the late 80s and early 90s and have been completely out for awhile now. Since this war, I have purposely not made my 'new' address known in any database because I don't want to be suddenly called back up.

BTW, I am not on inactive status but because of my field, I have had friends in the same field age 50+ that have been out for 20+ years get called back in.

Anyways, today I got my VA warning letter about the leak of 1 million veteran's information. I am wondering how the heck they found me? LOL

Freaking BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING EVERYTHING WE DO!!

They found you because of the tax records, My hubby got the same letter and has been out of the service since 1985. A lot of my friends who are still with the military are afraid of identity theft, I am glad we all were notified about the missing files from the laptop from the guys house. Any why he had the files at home is a big problem which needs to be looked into.

There are several systems that have your information, from credit to phone and internet. The military has a large number of private investigators who can look people up using these systems. Consider this however. You have been out a while so your chances of being called back are slim to none. Also, they sent you that letter out of concern since that information was lost, to help you, not to hunt you down.

I too recieved my letter stating the same thing. But I can understand how they found me, its only been 3 years since ive been out. Ya know for some reason, it almost sounds like that "theft" was some sort of a setup if ya ask me. Probally some coverup kinda like the whole "911" thing.

I received the same notice that you did. You are wrong about one thing. It is 24.5 million vets that have had there personal info stolen. Don't worry about it until your bank account has been emptied. That is what I got out of the letter from the VA.

I am one of the people that locates people that don't want to be found. It is very difficult for you tolive your life without making a "mark" where ever you live. It only takes me about 5 minutes to locate someone just by using your name.

Every move you make
Every breath you take
Every word you say
They'll be watching you

hehe...couldn't resist that one...

Big Brother knows. They likely found you through tax records.
