Men who are afraid of getting older have affairs with teenagers or young women because they are trying to reclaim their youth. By being with these young women they feel as though they still have some sort of appeal to the younger generations. It's a total ego booster for them. What they don't realize is they are too old to keep up with these young girls lifestyles and they end up looking the fool. Why would a young girl go for such an older man? She's obviously using him for some reason.

I have a theory.
Their bodies are failing. They no longer respond to new stimuli to trigger all the needed physical responses. On the other hand, their brain remembers the past and that old memory triggers all the needed responses in their body. They need teenagers to trigger enough memories of their youth to get their body to respond in the same manner as when THEY were teenagers.
Kind of like when women pretend they are with someone else in order to have an orgasm.

Because most 40-year-old women are no longer very attractive. Or at least not as attractive as younger women. Look around. Are there many women that age you consider hot? If you had a choice would you like some one physically appealing or unappealing?

It's an ego thing. It's not right, but this is a 2 edged sword. As one other person said, why do the girls have affairs with them? I suspect it is for bragging rights as well (ego thing).

Can you say pedophile. Sure a young girl may make them feel youthful. But other than money, what would a young girl see in an old man?

anyone under 17 he's sick. 18-20's he going through mid life crisis whereas this makes him feel alive & young then reality sets back n & he finds the relationship as stressful & incomplete

i didn't. but older people like to be around younger ones as they gain some energy just from being with them. Doesn't have to be sexual.
