Your in trouble, the side against it has sooooo many emotional ploys it almost isn't fair. You have to combat them constantly using the words 'baby' 'life' 'death' 'innocent' and others... they also (if allowed) will use very graphic images to stir up an emotional reaction (which can be very powerful).
What you can use... NEVER EVER use the word 'baby' and avoid words like 'killing' 'death' 'life' and similar words which will bring up emotions against your argument. It is a fetus once it attaches to the wall of the uterus. ALWAYS use the word fetus, keeping it scientific and unemotional. Bring up the womans right to choose of course. You can use rape victims and cases where the mothers life is in jeopardy too. Avoid saying things like the fetus can't survive on its own because that implies you are killing it. Also, it might be a good idea to point out that a majority of the arguments against abortion are emotional pulls as long as the other debator uses them. Emphasize that many, many women will get abortions whether or not they are legal and that having a professional do the procedure minimizes complications and serious injury to the women. Bring up the common, older methods when abortion was illegal (coat hangers, punches to the stomach, various poisons...) If you are being honestly judged you will win the argument because the side for the abortion has numerous logical arguments while the side against has primarily emotional arguments with little to no logic. But keep it mind it is almost impossible to actually change someone's mind on the matter once they have made up their mind.
Hope that helps a little...
You can even see it in the answers above, it's technically and legally not a baby until it is born. It is legally NOT murder to have an abortion but your opposition will insist that it is.

There are a lot of reasons for abortion but I'll just tell you a few that I dont think people think about a lot...
If abortion was illegal, there would be a lot of children with serious problems. If a woman wants an abortion but is forced to have the child, what is going to stop her from drinking, smoking, doing drugs, getting std's which are very harmful to the fetus? She doesnt want the child anyways, it's someone elses burden if she gives it up for an adoption so what does she care if the baby is well developed and healthy?
It doesnt matter if it's legal or illegal. Either way women are going to have abortions. Before it was legal women were going into alleys with hangers doing self abortions which is harmful to the already living person and can cause infection and make it to where they can't have children when they are ready. Either way, abortions are going to exist so why not have a professional do it the safe way?
Plus I hear a lot of teenagers getting pregnant and thinking about abortions and everyone always says to them... You're 14 you're too young and irresponsible to be having sex in the first place but you need to have the baby and take care of it.... good idea... they're too young and irresponsible to have sex yet responsible and old enough to raise a child? A lot of people dont think before they hand out their opinions.
I hope I helped!

Sorry I have to comment on Heidi's comment...
"people should not have the right to kill unborn babies. they have a right to live to how would you feel if your mom killed you?"
Well, We wouldnt feel...we wouldnt be alive? Personally, I would rather not be born to a person who didn't want me, or born to a person who had 10 kids living off welfare so I'd be living in poverty and have no future and end up in jail anyways, or be born with disabilities which would make it so I would never be able take care of myself.
"How hard is it to carry a baby for 9 months you can give it up after that."
You've OBVIOUSLY never been pregnant. It's very hard, your lifestyle changes especially if you have problems in your pregnancy. It's not a walk in the park. I've had a very easy pregnancy having no morning sickness and without problems like toxemia or kidney infections or other painful things that many women have when pregnant and it's still tiring and uncomfortable and many times painful and I'm 21...A 14 year old does not need to be experiencing something like this. And people who dont want to go through all of this shouldn't have to if they dont want to. I wanted to, looked forward to it and planned this pregnancy but some people aren't that lucky.
Dont forget! Pro-choice also supports the decision to HAVE the baby. It's not all death and abortions.
That is all :D

There are a lot of reasons given FOR it. I am not one to take a stand but I do think it is a matter of personal preference and beliefs. However, I CAN share this one with you... you may want to look for the book "Freakonomics" and take a quote from there! There is a section in this book that talks about the drop in the crime rate a few years after abortion was legalized. You can quote the book. It was written by an economist and can certainly help your grade as it is a little "outside the box" and teachers like it when you find something other than the norm. Here is the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/006073132X/ref=pd_bbs_null_1/002-6205924-9940003?v=glance
You can also talk about rape and not wanting to have the child of a rapist or you can talk about tests for brain damage and physical problems and not wanting to bring a child into the world for it only to suffer, etc. Just thoughts. Good luck!

In case if rape or incest--abortion
Incase of mother losing her life due to complication-abortion There are cases where if child was to be let born the outcome could result the possiblity loss of both life. Most drs will abort the baby in order to save the mother.
It's a choice..whether someone is for or it or against it. It is a choice. Freedom of privacy. It is our first admendment.
If the negative says it is evil and a woman shall be condemn..reply the one I love the most...judge not others yet yea be judge....where exactly it is at in the bible I do not know. WE can not condemn nor judge a woman for we all have not been before God to be judged of our sins. We can not cast that first stone upon the woman.--Helps with the bible issue..
There will be no back alley abortions...where a woman can get a serious infection from unsterile tools or the whole procedure itself. The ghastly result...she could no longer get pregnant or die due to infection.
Sometimes u make a mistake and happens with hs girls, that an abortion is the only way out from humilation and hardship...
Sometimes u have to make the decision due to financial reasons. Sometimes the accident came at the most dired time and there is no way to get back on ur feet. sometimes to abort a baby is better to let it live through proverty....
I know ppl are going to be like WHAT u support an abortion..so what of it? it's none of my business....i do think when a girl fails to protect herself costantly and keeps being pregnant and aborts 3-4 times cause she havent learn her lesson is wrong. but then again thats her problem...when she finally is ready for one, she'll never carry full term.. D&C does damage to the uterus...so there is her punishment...

Abortion is a choice that only the person concerned can make. i don't think that anyone in this world have the right to decide for that person.
if she has been raped or her baby is not healthy. she only can decide what she wants to do. and what's the best for her.
it is true that adoption is a possibility if you cannot take care of a child but we need to think that the girl would have to carry a baby for 9 months. and i think carrying a baby is a really great responsibility especially for someone who doesn't want a baby.
i'm not saying that i am for abortion. but we need to put ourselves in the situation of those young women before judging their decision.

people can say "fetus", "zygote", or creature all they want.....but the truth of the matter is that ven though abortions are legal up to 3 months and even 6 months in some states. However it has been PROVEN SCIENTIFICALLY that when you are 2 months pregnant your "fetus" already has a HEARTBEAT AND ALL OF ITS ORGANS....isn't something ALIVE when it has a heartbeat?......(sorry got a little off subject) but as you can see I'm clearly no help to your question..Im totally against it..people use it like its a form of birth control ...its sickening....

Well, I thing a girl has every tight to choose abortion is she is raped
You could also argue for economic factors - some families simply can't afford any more children
You could argue the teen motherhood thing - girls, who get pregnant, drop out of school and live on welfare
Hope these help....

Well, have you ever heard of the book, Freakonomics? You should get it. They have a really interesting part about how when abortion was legalized, the crime rate went down. (Argument being, less unwanted children, less children who grew up without good parental role models, etc.) Check it out, it might help.

Sorry, can't help with that one..I'd only be on the negative side of abortion..that is one reason I wouldn't be good at debating.
