Physically dangerous? No, probably not. Dangerous in that your child has is more likely of developing chromosomal/genetic problems? Yes. When a woman reaches 30 years of age, her eggs start to deteriorate. Usually 30's isn't a problem. It's when you reach 40s and above is when you're at a really high risk of having a baby with "problems" (sorry...coudln't think of a better way to word it!) The chances of a 38 year old women having a high risk or dangerous pregnancy are probably about as dangerous as a 28 year old woman having the same problems. It all depends on the woman, becuase we're all different.

No it's not. If a woman who is in her 60's and get pregnant and have a healthy birth so can a 38 year old. Congratulation to the 38 year old lady that is pregnant right now. She should consider herself very lucky and fortunate.

Above 35 is considered high risk, however with the technology today that is pretty young. Sure there are more possible complications but I know many woman over 35 who have had perfectly healthy pregnancies and happy and healthy babies. Just don't underestimate the importance of good prenatal care.

Well the best way to know for sure is have your doctor run some general health test to determine if your body can carry to term this way they would let you know of any known health problems that could affect you or the unborn fetus

Have you had a child within the last two years?
Do the females in your family have a history of having healthy children late in life?
Are you physically fit?
Do you have a history of avoiding chemicals and agents which cause genetic damage? (smoke, radiation etc.)
Do you have normal blood presure? Blood sugar?
Go for it.

I think my mum was 40 when she had her last child.

As long as your body's healthy and you eat the right things and take your prenatal vitamins, it should be like any other pregnancy.

Make sure communication is good between you and your doctor.

There are certain risks after age 35, but if you take care of yourself, don't smoke, don't drink alcohol or take drugs and follow your doctors orders, you should be just fine. Don't forget your prenatal vitamins and extra folic acid.

no it is not their are records of women being pregnant in their seventies. It just means that it might be a high rick pregnancy. You have to remember you are in the prime of your life not the end of it.

Generally, no. It depends on the individual woman and her health, but many women this age -- and much older -- have healthy pregnacies and healthy babies. I've had two friends have babies at age 40 and they and their children did great.
