the best man and the maid of honor and yes they give a toast to the newlyweds

I'm looking at, "The Everything Wedding Book." It says all toasts except the best man's toast are strictly optional." Anybody else can make a toast, but it shouldn't last more than 3 minutes.
The order of the toasting can be:
Best man toasts the bride
Groom toasts the bride
Bride toasts the groom
Father of the bride toasts the couple
Bride toasts her groom's parents
Groom toasts his bride's parents
Father of the groom toasts the Bride
Mother of the bride toasts the couple
Mother of the groom toasts the couple
Everyone else who has a wish to offer

Best Man is supposed to lead a toast to the bride and groom. Sometimes, this can turn into a speech because people are not too versed in etiquette these days.

You can have the best man and maid/matron of honor say a toast, but I went to a wedding recently where the bride's dad toasted the couple.

The Bride and Groom quite often do not make speeches on the marriage ceremony. Since you are not having a practice session, I might simply be definite to discuss with with each and every desk in the course of the reception and thank them for coming separately.

We had anyone who wanted to give a toast speak (we had my husband's sister, his best man & one of is best friends, then my maid & matron of honor) then my husband and I said a little something thanking everyone for coming
