I think America should screen better and faster for immigrants. The wall might help temporarily but they will find a way across. But the way I look at it is that the Mexicans are not the ones driving planes into our buildings. They are working more than full-time, at a wage way lower than most Americans and in conditions that they are used to. They are not perfect, just like us Americans, but I do think that we need to take the money that is being used on building the wall, which they will get around anyway, and hire more border patrol and people that process the immigration papers to help weed out the ones with criminal records. You can't just build a wall and expect to solve the problem. So you could say I am in the middle when it comes to immigration.

I am strongly in favor of immigration, in spite of the fact that I'm not an immigrant myself. First of all, most of the recent immigrants are good people, hard working, family oriented, lower percentage of criminals that native-born Americans. Secondly, this country took a major wrong turn some time ago (gee, about when the Republicans took over, what a coincidence). I'm now in favor of completely opening the borders to anyone with no police record because new immigrants tend not to be Republicans. It might be the easiest way to change the direction of this country. And it has the advantage of uplifting the lives of the immigrants themselves, many of whom come from poverty.

YES, I am for legal immigration. Immigrants are what made this country. Because of immigration we were able to have a melting pot symbolize our country.
BUT, when it comes to illegal immigrants who hop the border. I am against it. Yes, there is a lot of poverty in Mexico. Yet, look at other countries in this world. There is poverty in other countries but Mexico. My family came here to the US from the Philippines for a better future. They had to wait. I know a family who immigrated here from another country and the only one left was their son, who had to wait 8 years to get here. It's not fair that someone can just hop the border ILLEGALLY and be in America while someone has to wait LEGALLY to come here.
Also many illegal immigrants that come here find jobs where they do get paid less that minimum wage. With them coming here legally, I think it will help them have better wages. Also, I believe it puts legal citizens less likely to find a job in certain areas of work, because they expect their pay to be much higher than what the company wants to give. Thus, giving jobs to immigrants because they don't mind working under these conditions.
I hope that made sense.

I'm for any sort of immigration, legal or illegal. Who the hell cares if you have a freaking piece of paper saying you're a citizen? Bush has proved himself the most racist president, just as Wilson proved himself the most sexist. Between New Orleans and this whole Mexican thing, you know? It's only because the Hispanic people are Hispanic. If you put an illegal Mexican in front of our president and a document was put in his/her hand, the president would not all of a sudden like him/her. America is supposed to be a place were EVERYONE is free from any sort of criticizing or persecution. I guess whoever said that is full if it, because everyone might as well be saying "HEIL HITLER!"

Jesus Hayleyhate....the question was immigration.....Not Mexican hatred....isn't it just about the "illegals" or do we need to make a separate forum for those who have targeted Mexicans....and MEXICANS ONLY.....with you as the moderator.......LOL.
MY Answer: I think immigration has been going on for decades. I think right now it is being used as a political agenda and will make or break careers. I think it gives opportunity for people to voice their "anti-Mexican" rhetoric and not get called racist but get called "anti-immigrant". I think that we need border control but a wall is useless as we have tried that and it didn't work. I think that we could in no way line up 11 million illegals and say...ok.....shush.....go on....we need you to go home. I think that flag burning and march walking was disrespectful and was the wrong course. I think that we are all humans and we need to stop thinking THEY aren't.
The end
Peace

I am for legal immigration. Illegal immigration is a different story. I have no problem with people moving to the U.S. legally, which means they pay taxes, etc. However, I don't feel I should be paying taxes as a U.S. citizen to cover those who move here illegally.

It's really no more complicated than Jim's answer. America welcomes legal immigrants with open arms...even more so if they really want to assimilate...but still if they are legal, "come on in!"
But if you are illegal...hey, you are BREAKING THE LAW!! How can we possibly know WHY you are breaking the law? It may be for pretty benign reason, OR it could be for very dangerous reasons? If you want to be welcome here, play by the rules. How is this a hard concept to understand??

I like the idea that people can move to other countries and become citizens.
I wish the United States did not make it so difficult for people to become citizens here.
I wish that the United States did not exploit other people's economies to the point where they flee thier country to come to the US illegally.
If they have already come here illegally and have already spread roots and contributed to the economy, even at the hand of exploiting employers, they should be able to stay and become citizens. It is a two way street. Employers should be forced to pay higher wages and hire citizens for a living wage riather than be allowed to pay people, any people, slave wages. If not they are the ones who should be prosecuted.
Viva MEChA, Viva la Raza, Viva Mexico and Viva United States.
we are all flesh and blood, no human is illegal.

if your talking illegal immigration no way legal ok within reason!
think they should go, we gave amnesty once before which was supposed to stop it lol and it don't see how doing it now will ? mexico is not a poor country it has enough resources to take care of their own but be cause of corruption they choose not to and by sending their teeming masses to our country and us saying ok we are in turn are supporting mexico's corruption that is not a good plan for stopping illegal immigration nor corruption
The Mexican government is lobbying U.S. lawmakers and civic leaders for amnesty or guest-worker status for millions of illegal aliens now in the United States, working through a coalition of U.S.-based immigration rights associations, Mexican-American organizations and grass-roots Hispanic groups.
This growing political alliance, which also seeks expanded education and health care benefits for Mexican nationals in this country, along with additional programs for labor, community development and access to services, is led by the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, also known as the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior.
Known by the Spanish acronym IME, the institute was created by presidential decree and reports to a counsel of Mexican government officials headed by President Vicente Fox as a branch of Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It has called U.S. immigration reform a major priority, recommending policy changes that respect "the needs and rights" of Mexican nationals living and working in this country.
