I was an exchange student to Spain and they are FAR more knowledgeable about US history and geography than most young Americans are! The family I stayed with knew most of the state capitols. So I would say yes - Most countries do (at least in those in Europe - I also lived in Germany for 3 years and the same held true there too!)

I can't really answer this because I was an American student...however... I feel that they should definitly learn them-along with the capitals...because I had to learn every continent and every country and their capital when I was in school.... as well as the correct spelling.... I think it's important to know about the rest of the world we live in. I'm also amazed to look at a new map and think "now, when the hell did that country form???": Ha, ha... I need to keep up with it more... :)

Yes they do, but that's most countries. Here we are a US territory, so it is a requirement to learn about the US. I know in Japan they do teach about the US, as well as other countries. All in all I would think that people learn about other countries and it's history.

When I was in Geography class (9th grade), we had to learn all of the Canandian provinces and their capitals. I believe all Canandian students have to learn the names of all 50 U.S. states and their capitals.
