I don't know why people think that.
Are there crimes horrible enough to warrant the death penalty??
I believe there are.
I guess some people might say "No, there is nothing anyone can do that is bad enough to deserve the death penalty"....
I totally support having a death penalty.

Here is why the death penalty is always in question.
There has been several people executed because they were found guilty of 1st degree murder. But, after they were dead and buried, the courts found out that some individuals were not guilty. Mistaken identity.
Big problem.... we couldn't put humpty dumpty back together.... he's dead. And, the mistake cannot be undone.
The death penalty would be fine.... IF we could be 100% certain the person is guilty. For mass murderers... that would work. It would be better if "caught in the act" "red handed."
Even DNA testing is not perfect. There has been a few people that were wrongly convicted because their DNA testings were too similar to the actual criminal.
Of course a 'Poly' test is not unusable in a court of law because that tool is also imperfect.
And, here's another Moral Dilemma. What if the "murder" was in self-defense?? What if that person you executed would never kill again??
Did God execute Cain?? No, He knew that was a crime of passion, and would probably not happen again. So, banishment was enough. Today, our world is too small for banishment.
The same thing can be applied to Child Molesters and other heinous crimes. If the person is not really guilty, and you decided to play God and execute them... what happens when you find out the stories were fabricated?? Currently, of the 1,000's of cases were people are convicted of Sexual Assault or Child Molestation, approximately 1/3 of those people are convicted solely on heresy. No physical proof. No proof other than "She said, he said."
In NC, look at the Lacrosse team that was suspended because a woman cried Wolf. So far, none of the DNA testing, stories and other facts prove the crime was committed.... Yet, several boys have been indicted. For all we know, the strippers' boyfriend actually committed the rape... but she could be so afraid of the boyfriend, she figured she could blame the Lacrosse team. We may never know this truth, or it may come out in court. But, if this was 20 years ago, those boys would have been convicted of a crime they may not have committed.... Just because "She said so."
Which is sad because the 'real' molesters, murderers and other 'criminals' get scott clean away because they know how to elude the law.

Let them live in prison, two wrongs don't make a right, killing a murderer is committing the exact crime he was convicted of. the only difference is that it is pardoned. I'm not saying that what they do isn't punishable by death, but having one person killing another is murder no matter what the circumstances. Take this as an example, a man on death row for murder of a woman. if that woman's husband kills the murderer, does that make the man innocent?

The Ten Commandments are there for a purpose. I'm not religous, but we have to be better than animals. Society can provide a resonable 6 X 6 cell that can be welded shut except for food, water and waste. Oh and irregardless is not a word, but regardless is a proper use instead.

To bad more people don't think like you. The death penalty is way under used in this country. Serious offenders are in and out of the prison system just to commit more crimes against society. It's not a matter of revenge or vengeance. It's the issue of some people are just too dangerous to exist in our society. And personally I don't think as a society it's up to us pay for their mistakes (i.e. pay for them to stay in prison and hurt more people).
We need to get the minor drug offenders out of our prisons and put to death more people for serious crimes against people. The only reason people are so liberal is serious crime has not touched their lives yet. That is because our system keeps a tight reign on them. But our system will collapse because we think as a society everyone can be saved (by locking them up). Wake up people, no matter what you were taught growing up, there are people that are truly evil. And those people need to be removed from our society permanently.

DEATH PENALTY
I agree. People don't really seem to think something is important until it happens to them. This is why we live in a country where it means absolutely nothing for someone to walk up, hold a gun to your head and blow you away.
That is why we live in a country where it means absolutely nothing for a man to take a persons child, molest and kill that child and then throw the child in the trash or bury it somewhere.
People that commit these crimes have toooooo many rights and the people that haven't had one of these vicious crimes happen to them are the main ones screaming out "The death penalty is In-Humane".

I am totally for death penalty for the same reasons as you. I have two beautiful children, many loved ones. If someone killed them, I want them dead. Not a revenge thing...I truly believe that it could maybe prevent some future murder .
This is a very emotional subject to many people. There is that small percentange of people innocent....but I think it is very small. The deterrent factor alone, in my opinion, sways the vote. If that thug with the weapon, has to maybe think for a moment "pulling this trigger or thrusting this knife, could be also killing me" might save a life.

I think it should be left up to the family of the victims. If that family is against the death penalty, then it shouldn't be up to the state to kill them, since that's not what's best for the family of the victim. Sometimes for murderers and rapists I think it's worse for them to live 50 years in jail since they usually get beat by the other inmates.
On the other hand, they're still alive, when their victims are not.

I am an advocate of the death penalty in select situations.... when someone has killed, is definitely guilty and may kill again. If you put them in prison, they could escape and kill again. If you put them to death, you've removed the threat from society. I do think the death penalty is not applied correctly: it is used too often when the guilt of a person is uncertain. My criteria would be guilt "beyond any doubt" and the potential that a person may kill again; e.g. he killed randomly the first time.
