No. Take all your cues from him. If he's ready, there's no point in holding back. Their brains are like little sponges and are able to absorb so much, so quickly.

When my son was 20 months old, he could name and point out over half the states on a US map. He seemed to enjoy it, and it was working his brain.

No. It is never too young to start teaching a child. I started reading at 4 adn a half unfortunatly my mother forgot the spelling lessons. Hahaha. I adore reading to this day, and am thankful I have been able to read my whole life.

A child progresses at their own pace, if the child is picking up on spelling easy then go right ahead and teach.

Have fun!

Definetly not. I think you should start teaching your child spelling during his first months of life. My daughter is 3 yrs old and knows all her abc's and even counts to 15 by herself. She knows her colors and is working on reading. I also use big words around her. After awhile she will get them. This is the age where their brains are like sponges.

My daughter is a good cleaner. She learned good. I caught her cleaning my coffee table and computer desk with baby wipes. She is working on her name and colors great. My son is delayed from what they call learning disablities which is ridiculious. Everyone on this country has some form of disability or another, that is what it seems like.

It is never to young to teach your child how to read. I am taking developmental child psychology and they said you can teach your child fluent in another language. It's best to do it before the age of seven. After that, the child can still learn, but other people that speak the other language will know he learned later in life. You can leave books laying around the house and the baby will teach himself by your reactions. Pretty cool huh.. Karen

no....

my two-year old has been interested in words and writing since she was about one so i have been encouraging her in that area.

she can read or recognise about 30 words either when they are written in books or in a jumble on a piece of paper. she can spell many of these words also and recognise all of the letters of the alphabet.

its never too young to start teaching your kids about anything they are interested in. i just let my daughter lead me into what she would like to know and go from there, showing her all of the things that can be done.

No way!!! My parents said I was reading at age 3...but instead of or along with spelling, you may want to teach your child phonics.

I assist with homework at an after school program and most of the kids who have problems with reading don't know phonics. I asked quite a few kids about phonics and they didn't know what phonics were.....

No...just by writing out letters and having your son trace them..or by spelling out simple words like cat and dog, he will begin to build his vocabulary, which is great. The younger your child is when he begins to understand language and reading the better. He will excel in his education.
