Bastard has non insulting definitions such as bastard grade files in metalworking.

I remember how chatrooms used to filter out rude words which made it hard if anyone wanted to say they came from Scunthorpe.

The word bastard means a child from an unmarried relationship. Strictly speaking it is not a swear word, although it has now been adopted as one. To be honest I don't htink that the censoring on here has been sorted out properly as you can get away with using symbols in swear words so that people know exactly what you are on about such as:

bo!!ock$
$hit
(unt
w@nker
ar$eho!e

and so on.f

"Bastard" is a legal term, it is defined as an illegitimate child of unmarried parents. Back in the day when divorce was unheard of, this was a HUGE social stigma, not so much today. Anyway it's a legal term, the rest are slang words which describe nothing but childish activities and body parts.

Bastard is refering to a child born out of wedlock. that is why it is not considered swearing. I must be dunb, because I don't know the other word you aare talking about. But it could be because yahoo is trying to keep it clean. But some of the words do get through. I have seen quite afew. Someone the other night kept saying the "F" word and it did not get blocked.

So who knows . Good luck with this one.

Because you have an obligation to other people as well. Remember, kids have access to this site too and being an adult (if you already are), it's your duty to set an example. I guess bastard is not a curse but the other ones are.

It's because Yahoo Answers is an American site, Americans are very prudish in general (yes I know a lot aren't), and therefore find such words offensive, they however do not seem to care whether it offends any other Country or culture.

I am by far no english teacher or anything, but I personaly think that how these words are used in a sentence, or statement is what makes it offensive too some people. I know what a female dog is very well......as with many things it depends how you are raised and where.
