Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes an eating disorder characterized by low body weight and body image distortion. Individuals with anorexia often control body weight by voluntary starvation, purging, vomiting, excessive exercise, or other weight control measures, such as diet pills or diuretic drugs.

Bulimia nervosa, more commonly known as bulimia, is an eating disorder. It is a psychological condition in which the subject engages in recurrent binge eating followed by intentionally doing one or more of the following in order to compensate for the intake of the food and prevent weight gain:

vomiting
inappropriate use of laxatives, enemas, diuretics or other medication
excessive exercising
fasting

People with anorexia can use vomitting as a means of controlling thier weight. I won't say it is more common in people with bulemia, but used differently. In general some one with bulemia will binge eat (over-eat on purpose for emotional needs) and then purge it all. I have suffered from both eating disorders, and when I was anorexic, I would purge myself even after the smallest amount of food, even if was the only thing I would allow myself to eat in 4 days. Bulemia was different, I didn't deny myself of food, I just vommited it up.

In your question you described a couple pf behavior patterns that both anorexics and bulimics follow. Frequently sufferers fluctuate between those two and others.

Most anorexics will rigorously restrict their eating, weigh everything even restricting themselves to just five corn flakes a day or something like that. They will usually go in to a bulimic phase when they are around others and want to hide their disorder, either because people are worried about them or they are undergoing treatment or both. It's a way of perpetuating their problem while keeping others happy on the surface.

Bulimics regularly binge. Some will restrict vomiting to just after a big binge but will be able to eat ordinary meals throughout the day. Some vomit after every meal and snack. Most will fluctuate between the two, depending on their emotional state. It's not unusual for bulimics to go in to an anorexic phase to try giving up a bulimic pattern. Both anorexics and bulimics may use laxatives, diet pills etc as someone said above.

The only way to deal with it is to get counseling. In the case of someone with an eating disorder, the devil you don't know is better than the one you do know. Seeking help is better than years of suffering.

Okay, so although you requested this a few at the same time in the past, I determined to reply it besides. I'm 17 and I'm in institution to emerge as an orthodontist, and critically, the scrubs I put on make me appear non-anorexic, I bet you would say... Btw, I cannot purge, I truthfully cannot. I think like I'm losing meals, although it results in the bathroom besides... I do order my lunches within the cafeteria, however I almost always carry IceBreakers Cool Duo mints or Altoids, or 5gum. I don't enable myself to consume earlier than three:00 PM or I will excersise it off. Ok, so right here we cross... Sunday - the whole lot I desire, considering the fact that its a church day. Monday -- Friday - water, plenty of water. Usually three sticks of gum (30 energy) after which while I get dwelling, a few tea and toast. Saturday - I consume what I desire, and excersise off the relaxation. Hope I helped!

Anorexic people tend to eat little or nothing. Bulimics eat (sometimes alot), and then throw up. Some anorexics or bulimics also overexercise, but I don't know if there is a specific name for that. I hope your friend got over her anorexia and is doing better.

Anorexia nervosa is a mental disorder where the person has body image issues and tries to resolve them by limiting how much they eat. Bulimia is another mental disorder in which the person binges and purges. Meaning they eat a lot then throw it all up. Or they eat regular means then purge themselve. Both are very dangerous to ones health and could even kill them.

there are two main types of eating disorders. in anorexia, the person starves themselves, and thinks that they are fat, even if they are underweight. in bulimia, the person may starve themselves, but they go through cycles of binging and purging. there is an element of anorexia, ie starvation, with bulimia, but not vice versa. when a bulimic purges, they vomit or they may use laxatives, excessive exercise, or stop eating for long periods of time. bulimics eat excessively, whereas anorexics basically starve themselves. also, bulimics usually look normal or a little overweight. its harder to spot someone who has bulimia, but tell-tale signs are calluses on their hands due to vomiting, and dental complications such as thinned enamel. bulimics are also more likely to have arrhythmias and electrolyte imbalances, which is often their cause of death. hope this answered your question.

Anorexia is the problem of not eating hardly anything at all because they have a fear of being fat. What you are thinking about is Bulemia, in which you go on binges of eating a lot of fatty foods, and then you make yourself throw it up. {I went through a period of bulemic actions in my life, and that's the only way I know about either of them} That's all I have to say.

bulimia is when you throw up
bulimia- a eating disorder when you binge ( stuff your face) followed by self-induced vomiting (purge)
anorexia is a self-starvation disorder
if your friend is not eating at all.. she is anorexic
if she dosnt eat a lot.. and when she does.. she vomits.. she is bulimic
