I'm not exactly sure, but like other people said, based on their teeth, fur, eyes, and sometimes feeling on their stomach. We have 1 dog and 3 cats... two adopted from the Humane Society and the other two cats who adopted us by coming to our house and demanding to come in :) Anyway, all of their ages were "estimated" by vets... so we just go by what they say and declare the day we found them to be their birthday :)

You can tell how old a cat is by estimating based on her eyes and teeth. There is no 100% down to the year way to know.

I asked the vet how old my cat was (before he died) and she said that you can guesstimate, but only when they are younger. She may have been wrong, I don't know.

Yeah, probably their fur and teeth. Sometimes they can rub around on their stomach and tell though. I'VE SEEN IT. Maybe they're quacks though.

With the kittens, they look at their teeth to see what's come in/fallen out.
