VERY CAREFULLY!!! Wrap yourself in denim or leather, like motorcyclists wear to protect themselves from road-rash. If you have a hockey mask, get it and put it on too. Luckily, it's just a kitten and does not yet know that it hates water, so you'll have no problem getting it into the tub...the problem is in keeping it there and actually giving it a bath!
Just so you know, cats almost never need to be bathed. They groom themselves. You can help them out by brushing their fur regularly. Of course, if kitty has gotten into something to make him dirty, well a bath may be in order, but only as a last resort. You may try some bathing wipes that are sold in the pet store. They wash the cat without having to submerge them in water. Both you and kitty will be much happier in that scenario. Good luck!

Take your time... Barely put an inch of water in the bathtub. Ease their little kitty paws into the water. Make sure it is not too hot.. test it on the inside of your wrist. If you can't feel it (hot or cold) it is just the right temperature. Talk to your kitty in a calm voice. Use a wash cloth and a cup to pour water over kitty. Then use kitty shampoo and work a dime sized amount into kitty's fur. Rinse well...if you think you have rinsed enough, rinse again to make sure you get all the soap out. If you have a long haired cat, their fur gets really greasy looking so you have to wash 1-2 times a week. You may also want to use mild conditioner on long haired kitty's fur to keep it from getting tangley. Do not comb kitty until fur is completely dry or it will break. You can even use a blowdryer on low, cool heat but kitty will be scared of this at first...take your time. Just remember to talk soothingly and your kitten will get used to being bathed..by the time kitty is older, bathing will be a breeze!
PS- Always wear a long sleeved shirt, the thicker the better. Kitty will be scared and try to climb your arms...

Well get it used to being in the water know that its a kitten. We did this with ours now we can't take him out of the shower when we take baths. We started bathing him when he was only 3 1/2 weeks old. He loves it.

VERY firmly hold the kitten by the loose skin on back of neck. Have the bath water ready, warm and soapy, with cat shampoo only. Don't use dishwashing detergent, etc.
Dip cat, butt first, into warm water and use free hand to wash. IF you have a good grip they will not be able to get loose. The kitten is pretty much paralyzed. You'll know its a good grip if their face is stretched back. Have rinse water already drawn, dip and rinse very well. Have the towel handy. Wrap several times, snuggly. By this time the kitten will escape and dry itself. Good luck. By the way, they don't need bathed, unless they got into something bad.

I don't know if you would do something different for a kitten, but for my adult cat, I usually am extra nice to him before bath time. Then I put him in the EMPTY tub and turn the water on low. I get a plastic cup, fill it somewhat, then pour on kitty, all the while telling him hes such a good boy in a soothing voice. Never once been bitten or clawed...he struggles a little bit, but just sits there for the most part.

"Big Fella" gave a good answer. You really shouldn't bathe a kitten unless you HAVE to. A warm wash-cloth really is best. A Bath is a little tramatic for cats, and especially for kittens.

Warm damp cloth and just wipe it thoroughly - why are you bathing the kitty anyway - most cats don't need bathing - do you have a flea problem - if so I'd recommend taking the kitty to the vet for treatment - if you opt to do it yourself be careful so you don't get bitten or scratched - and be sure to dry the baby well after so it doesn't catch cold! Good Luck

my cats get baths sometimes...since they were kittens. use a baby shampoo and don't get it in their eyes or ears if you can help it. the kitchen sink is easiest to use b/c it's smaller than a bath tub, and less scary for a kitten. as it gets older though, the tub works just fine. make sure the water isn't freezing cold or wicked hot too, and don't give him/her a bath on a cold day!!

Bath Time You think "no problem", a six pound cat can't be that hard to bathe. After all you have already mastered the ability of washing, clothes, dishes, kids, and dog with time to spare all in one week-end.
Unless one of the following are true, you may be setting your self up for an experience of a life time.
Your cat loves water
Your cat was introduced to baths at a young age.
You are experienced at bathing cats.
This story is more common than people would like to admit.
It's Saturday morning, an little kitty got into the chocolate Ding-Dongs last night. Of course he now has an upset tummy, and is making quite a few extra visits to the litter box. He needs a bath in the worst way, and you have been elected to do the duty.
Knowing that he may not enjoy this, you put on your old clothing, pull your hair back into a pony tail, and grab a couple of towels and the baby shampoo. You think you are now ready, to do the deed.
Little kitty appears to be doing fine, he looks at you pitifully, as if asking what did I do to deserve this?
You have gently wet him down and just starting to lather him up, when he decides this is enough of this! He makes a break for it. He jumps on to the edge of the tub, catching your arm with the back claws on the way. From there on to the back of the toilet, "CRASH" there goes the the crystal soap dish, than on to the cabinet. As he goes at lightning speed, everything lands on the floor. Your senses are coming to you, you see him going out the door and heading down the hall. You are in "hot pursuit" down the hall, straight under the dinning room table. Just as you catch up, he goes out the other side, over the back of the couch, under the coffee table, over the chair, and back down the hall. You almost catch him, but catching a wet soapy, cat is much like a greased pig. There he goes down the hall passing the bathroom and straight for the kids room, under the bed he goes. You make a dive, like a kid sliding into home base, only to see him exit out the other side. As you are getting up, you see the tail just going out of sight through the door. The phone rings, another telamarketer hoping you are having a nice day. You hang up on the telamarketer, and start looking for little kitty. You find him under you King-size bed, about 3 inches out of reach, and looking like something from a horror movie. Ears are flat, showing teeth, hissing, and ready to rip the first thing that reaches him. Oh boy aren't we having fun.
