I haven't been in school for many years but I'm guessing public school has not changed too much...
I'll answer your 2nd question first...you will be issued a locker of some sort for your books, coat etc... It should have a lock or combo so that others' can not get into it.
Now, onto public school life. I'm not sure what your background is but you may be in for culture shock.
First, I will discuss the good I think public school offers...then the bad....
You will have a lot of diverse fellow students to become friends with. You will have many teachers and interesting classes. You will get to (hopefully) experience group and team activities such as sports, musical groups, dances, the prom (eventually) etc...You will learn a lot of things that you may not get to experience if you are home schooled. You will learn about other's opinions, styles of clothes, behaviors etc...
On the downside-in school, you will also have a lot of heartbreaks. Kids can be cruel if you do not fit in with a particular "clique". You may feel isolated. You may feel "different" because you are new to how things are done in public school. Classes can sometimes be structured in a way that does not allow for other ideas and you will have to come to terms with that. Public education is very structured and you will have to really keep on top of your homework and studies to keep up.
I do not know where you are located, but you may also have to deal with certain issues that plague public schools. Students you meet may offer you drugs, alchohol or try to pressure you into unhealthy or irresponsible behavior such as skipping classes etc...
I know it may sound scary....but I was educated in public school from kindergarten to graduation...and though at times, it was difficult... I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything. I had pain but I also made great friends, learned a lot of lessons and I have mostly fond memories of my time in school.
Oh, and for how it generally works-
Things may have changed since I was in school-but this is the basic set up....
You should get a schedule of your classes, teachers and classroom numbers, locations....
You catch a bus or are driven to school. Most students meet in either "home room" or their 1st class room. You usually sit in one class for a period of time, take notes, listen to the teacher, or do hands on work...then, a bell may ring...and you will have a few minutes to go to your locker, the restroom etc...and then get to your next class period. At some point in the day, you will have a lunch break. You will go to a cafeteria and half a certain amount of time to eat and socialize. Another bell may ring and then you go on to your next class. When the day is finished, you will then go to your locker, get your stuff, homework you may need to take home etc...and then catch your bus or ride home. School generally runs from Monday -Friday....
Good luck!

It can be a very intimidating place if you're not confident... Just remember that the entire day is an learning experience, in class, during lunch, in the hallways and even in the bathrooms. Always be sure to keep your chin up and don't get too friendly with anyone too quickly, if they really want to be your friend they'll respect you from the start.
You should get a locker to put your bags in, some schools don't have enough space though so you have to share books like in grade school.
Also, most 7th grade schools work on the 'class period' system, so you'll have to get used to moving from classroom to classroom every 50 minutes or so.
The most important thing is to be nice to EVERYONE at first, even if they're mean to you, until you get a feel for things. THis doesn't mean you have to do whatever anyone tells you, just be polite and couteous.
good luck

I think their awesome, because it opens you up to new types of situations and pretty much prepares you for what the real world is like. You'll make friends you'll lose some, you'll have some good and bad in the whole situation, but all in all i loved public schools they were the awesome! Bookbags go in lockers lol, and as for what you do a bell rings starting the day you go to ur class then you slowly switch classes every so often and intervals. Its not hard to get only difficult part if ur new to the area is remembering where classes are. But other than that fun nonetheless! Oh ya, don't let what people think of you try to change who you are, be yourself because if you aren't yourself then who are you? Go by your beliefs not what everyone else thinks you should be!

In answering your question I asume you were home schooled and now your family is for some reason sending you to public school.
I am a high school teacher
Public school might be a shock to you. You will have 6-9 teachers in your school year and they will all have different expectations and systems of managing any where from 60-160 students. You will be just one of these students. Expect a lot less flexibility. Most students that I have taught that come from home school situations don't deal well with deadlines. I'm guessing its because some of them could so their work on their own time table and not the school's/teacher's time table.
One of the things you should do is get involved in at least 1 or 2 school clubs, sports or activities. You will get to meet students from many different background and by talking to them and getting to know them you will learn a lot about yourself. These skills are important no matter what you plan to do latter in life. I hope this information applies to your situation.
PS Don't worry to much about the book bag thing...just know that most school systems don't allow you to carry a bag from class to class for security reasons.

Its all changing everyday, your classes, your routine, I am quite sure its changed since I, or my childeren were in 7th grade, but its a new challange to look forward to , finding out what you are best at and where you need little more help, its where we all became a little more social in more grown up settings.
Generally most all your classes will be in different rooms with different teachers that have been educated in making sure that you are learning what you are supposed to in the appointed classrooms.
Seems that all schools are overcrowded or at best maxed out to the limits. .Most every secondary school is supposed to have a place for your book bags, called lockers, your possessions are protected there by the combination lock or a key lock, depends on the policy the school district is governed by, through the board of education there.
Congradulations on your promotion to the 7th grade, read, listen , look, learn, and please if you don't understand what is going on with your studies please ask for help your teacher is the first place to start, if you dont get the assistance there go to the guidence counselor, and principles... its a time you will find that you can either excell or get lost in the new crowd. Keep your parents active and current with what you are doing and studing and go to them when you need help or there is something you don't understand your parents are your 1st ally. Your education is important keep everyone concerned very involved, This will be your important key to the future.

Public school has a lot of drama. You put your backpack in a locker. When you first get there all of the other kids are going to look at you like you are a piece of meat. There might be one person to come up to you and be your friend but don't expect to much your first couple of days. There are many groups but there is always one groups that is the nastiest to the new students. What you do is go there to learn and get your education and sometimes meet new people. If you get into trouble with the other students let one of the teachers know.

Public school isn't bad at all. I wasn't a big fan of junior high though. Don't worry about making friends, just do what you did at your old school and you're sure to make friends. Every school is different about where you put your book bags, some of lockers some let you take them to class with you it just depends on the school. Most times at that grade you're going to change classes several times during the day and have different teachers for every class. Just don't sweat it to much and if you have any more questions feel free to IM or email me. Good luck with public school.

Its hard to say, it really depends on what the economy is like where you live, the budgets, and the system where you are. It varies so greatly!
I got a good junior high education at an inner city school, one where many dont seem to thrive, while I did.
PS bookbags go in a locker unless its a small school, then you take it from one class to the other and only bring what you NEED each day

You put book bags in lockers. 7th grade is a good year to join a school. In the 7th and 8th grade you usually form friendships that will last the rest of your school life. honestly public school is sucky. The teachers are too busy dealing with the trouble makers to help anyone else. The students curse like sailors and think it is cool. the students sneak off the bathroom to screw around. So have fun...
