The police are attempting to locate a wanted subject. Unfortunately, many people lie to the police and therefore they become unwilling to accept that someone is telling the truth. The police are not harrassing your friend but are merely attempting to ascertain if the information she has given (not knowing the whereabouts of her father) was truthful. Give it a little time and, if after that time you still feel uncomfortable, ask to speak with the officer's supervisor and relay your concerns. Do not file a complaint, just voice concerns and ask that it be noted that he doesn't live there.
As for a search warrant, it cannot be issued unless there is probable cause that the father is actually inside of the residence such as he is seen in a window. It takes a lot for a search warrant.

Call the precinct and ask to speak to a supervising officer about the situation. They shouldn't be against answering a couple of questions. If the guy is wanted you can find that out pretty fast. If you have trouble getting that info, give me the guys name and I will see if I can look it up for you. Just tell the super that you are feeling a little nervous about the extra attention and want to know that your family is safe. Good luck.

Police can get a warrant to search for a person or property. They don't need a warrant if there is probable cause to search or if they are involved in a chase. Obviously, there is a reason they want the dad.

Just do not harbor him if he is wanted, or you will be arrested.
