why don't you just be sincere with your intentions... ? tell him without pretense, and it should be fine

Offer a mint or gum. If that dosent work then ask the boss to check your breath, if he says that you could use a freshener then maybe it will be easier for you to tell your boss the same.

You really should just let it be, but if you can't do that, tell him about a made-up someone whose breath was so bad it could knock a maggot off a gut-wagon. Don't mention him at all, but lay it on thick about that "other person." Just do it once, and NOT in front of anyone else!

I was singing/performing in a coffee shop one day and had some nasty coffee breath going on. A girl sitting in front of me dug through her purse and threw some floss in my tip jar. Needless to say, I was cured. ;)

There really is no "easy" way to do that. You could try something subtle like pulling out a pack of mints, taking one yourself, then offering one to him. Just hope and pray that he takes it.

You shouldn't tell him...that would be rude. Sorry but there are just some things in life we have to put up with nomatter how unpleasant they are.
