Depression is the most common cause of suicide. Depression mixed with the use of drugs and alcohol increases the chances that someone will follow through with a suicide attempt.
Many times someone who is prone to depression caused by a chemical imbalance is ashamed to admit that such a problem exists. They don't want to be seen as 'crazy' or are afraid of being locked away in some sort of "insane asylum". Depression is like any other disease and there is help for it. Many times it can be helped, even cured, through use of prescription medication. Sometimes a therapist is also needed to give the person an outlet for their feelings along w/the use of meds.
If someone you know has been mentioning suicide, even if you think they would never go through with it, be sure to say something to them and perhaps ask a doctor about how to help that person. A lot of times people mention it as their "cry for help" without coming straight out and asking for help.
Do your part in helping the person but if they decide to go through with it, know that there was NOTHING you could have done to stop it. Someone hellbent on "ending" their pain permanently will most likely not hear any suggestions you or anyone else gives. My cousin hung himself 2 years ago. Everyone did what they could before it happened and we even thought we had gotten through to him. One night, when he was alone and drinking, he took the step that ended his pain permanently, but started ours. It is the most selfish act someone can do. It causes years of guilt and pain and can lead to others suffering of depression and feelings of wanting to commit suicide themselves.
Here are some symptoms of depression:
If you are depressed at the moment some of the following symptoms may sound familiar:
*
You feel miserable and sad.
*
You feel exhausted a lot of the time with no energy .
*
You feel as if even the smallest tasks are sometimes impossible.
*
You seldom enjoy the things that you used to enjoy-you may be off sex or food or may 'comfort eat' to excess.
*
You feel very anxious sometimes.
*
You don't want to see people or are scared to be left alone. Social activity may feel hard or impossible.
*
You find it difficult to think clearly.
*
You feel like a failure and/or feel guilty a lot of the time.
*
You feel a burden to others.
*
You sometimes feel that life isn't worth living.
*
You can see no future. There is a loss of hope. You feel all you've ever done is make mistakes and that's all that you ever will do.
*
You feel irritable or angry more than usual.
*
You feel you have no confidence.
*
You spend a lot of time thinking about what has gone wrong, what will go wrong or what is wrong about yourself as a person. You may also feel guilty sometimes about being critical of others (or even thinking critically about them).
*
You feel that life is unfair.
*
You have difficulty sleeping or wake up very early in the morning and can't sleep again. You seem to dream all night long and sometimes have disturbing dreams.
*
You feel that life has/is 'passing you by.'
*
You may have physical aches and pains which appear to have no physical cause, such as back pain.

Why do people kill themselves?
The simple answer is: because they’re very sick(depressed or mentally unwell or anyhow). Healthy people do not commit suicide. More than 90% of people who commit suicide suffered from a significant psychiatric illness at their time of death. It may seem simplistic, but it's the most honest and basic answer to a complex question. Education and frank discussion are simple ways to help reduce the stigma that prevents a depressed person from seeking the help he needs.
The common thought among people who kill themselves is the belief that suicide is the only solution to a set of overwhelming feelings. The attraction of suicide is that it will finally end these unbearable feelings. The tragedy of suicide is that intense emotional distress often blinds people to alternative solutions . . . yet other solutions are almost always available.

This is a really deep question?
Some people suffer from depression some have suffered a horrendous hurt, like abouse and do not know how to handle it,
Then some people have disease, and may be in terrible pain, a human mind can only take so much. Some people want to spare their famly from watching a disease slowly eat them away.
Then you have those people who give up with out trying and are selfish.

Because they think their is no other way out to their sad, miserable, unhappy life. Some even die because they are under the influence of some stupid drug or alcohol. There are many reasons why people kill themselfs but whatever reason that is shouldn't lead to death their is always a solution to every problem. Some people a just so stupid aor afraid to make some change.

suicide cannot be explained easily. sometimes, someone gets depressed, and they decide to end their pain.
some people choose suicide because of physically pain rather then emotional pain.
its easy to say that people want to kill themselves because of depression, while, there is a deeper cause for it. many things can cause one to become depressed. treating the depression only treats the depression, and it may easily come back. sometimes even prescription medications can cause suicidal thoughts even though they are meant to treat depression.
to be more vague, depression causes many suicides. its a horrible feeling. its not really a feeling, or emotion, its a frame of mind.
not every one experiances depression. some people just experiance a very saddening event, which leaves them injured for some time. but depression is much much more powerful then just being sad, its a never ending pain for some, those who take their own lives choose to do so for their reasons. sometimes, attempted suicides are just cries for help, while others, really just want to end their pain.
to say that every body who even thinks about suicide, or at least dying does so because of depression is wrong. its what causes that person to feel that way that is really to blame.

Those people were probably so much disappointed in life and they felt that killing themselves is best solution for their problems. But in my opinion all problems in this world can be solved when you are alive, but none of them when you are death.

Because they are in a situation that tremendously hurts and they see no light at the end of the tunnel. They want to quit feeling the pain of the hurt that seems insurmountable. It doesn't seem as if the problem(s) will ever go away.

In Iran or Iraq suicide is their way to please Allah. In the other parts of the world even America they are unable to face a hardship, lack self esteem along with depression. Actually there is no need to kill ones self there is always help please ask for it. life can be great no matter the situation. Love your self even if you think no one else does. you are your own best friend or worst enemy be more of a friend to ones self it can save your life.

Because they believe this life is not worth living anymore.
Usually (not always), this is a sign of major clinical depression.
